Lotus Festival

Where: Echo Park

What: The annual Lotus Festival is a community tradition and opportunity to view Echo Park’s beloved floating flowers. Likewise, the festival also includes food, music, and dragon boar races among other fun activities. The event will honor the contributions of Asian-Americans to L.A. along with the Indian community.

Zoo Friday Nights

When: July 8 – July 29 

Where: Griffith Park

What: On select Fridays, the L.A. Zoo invites you to spend the evening enjoying music, dancing, and more under the stars. This twilight animal viewing opportunity will also include educational talks and a cash bar for those 21 and over.

Two Schmucks at Broken Shaker

When: July 10 

Where: Freehand Hotel | Hollywood 

What: What is more summer than drinks on a rooftop with city views? Enjoy one of Barcelona’s best bars this weekend at the Freehand Hotel. On Sunday, July 10, Two Schmucks—also named as 11th best globally by the World’s 50 Best Bars—will pop up on the Downtown L.A. rooftop from 10pm to 2 am. It is walk-ins only.

 

WESTSIDE & BEACH COMMUNITIES WEEKEND EVENTS | JULY 8 – JULY 10

Long Beach Pride

When: July 8 – July 10 

Where: Long Beach

What: Pride Month may have ended in LA but the celebration continues on in Long Beach. Catch artists like Iggy Azalea and Natalia Jiménez as they headline this two-day ticketed Pride event. The LB Pride festival will also feature a roller rink, a drag makeup station, a silent disco, and more.

Amex Gold x Resy Present: The Boardwalk

Where: Santa Monica Pier

What: For an ideal summer afternoon, Resy and Amex Gold have teamed up to bring you summer fun on the pier. Head over to SM for a boardwalk-inspired fare featuring LA’s top restaurants. Along with delicious food, there will also be boardwalk games, a half-pike skate ramp, and more!

Bergamot Station Summer Celebration

Where: Bergamot Station | Santa Monica

What: It’s time to celebrate summer! Head over to Santa Monica’s Bergamot Station to peruse over 20 galleries of art. Along with works by different artists, there will also be live performances.

Moonlit Saturdays

Where: The Nitecap | Burbank

What: Treat yourself to some comedy and laughs this weekend. Head to The Nitecap for Moonlit Saturdays. The comedy show features LA’s best comedians, many of whom have appeared on HBO, Netflix, and Showtime. Don’t miss out!

Valley Relics Museum Experience

What: Visit the Valley’s beloved museum of Pop Culture this weekend! The Valley Relics Museum invites you to join them for a day full of nostalgia and fun. Free Summer Movies in the Park Presents: Encanto

What: Enjoy free summer movies presented by Pleasant Valley Recreation & Park District presents. Movies start at 8:15 PM, with an evening that includes food trucks and pre-movie live music, and lawn games.

Channel Islands Harbor Art Festival

When: July 9 

Where: Channel Islands Harbor | Oxnard

What: The annual Channel Islands Harbor Art Festival returns this weekend. Featuring varying artists, you’ll find works of different mediums. Of course, admission and parking are free.

Tiny Porch Concerts at Peter Strauss Ranch

When: July 10

Where: Peter Strauss Ranch | Agoura Hills

What: In cooperation with the National Park Service, Tiny Porch Concerts presents its 2022 Summer Series at Peter Strauss Ranch, on a newly rebuilt stage. While admission is free, donations are encouraged to support the work of the Santa Monica Mountains Fund.

Luckily, Tinsletown is full of destinations where you can catch flicks both old and new. We are rounding up the best summer outdoor movie events happening around town for this week’s edition of Out & About!

Street Food Cinema

You can never go wrong with SFC! This local favorite of outdoor movies screening events combines food trucks, music, and of course movies for a truly epic night. The screenings take place at different locations around town like Griffith Park. Likewise, this gives you the chance to explore other local neighborhoods in the process.

Parks After Dark

Presented by LA County, Parks After Dark brings cinema to over 34 local parks! From Kong vs. Godzilla to Onward and more, the screenings are of course family-friendly. In addition, Parks After Dark also includes arts and crafts activities and health resources. 

Rooftop Cinema Club

Who doesn’t love a film with a view? This is of course what you can expect at Rooftop Cinema Club. This outdoor movies screening series brings Hollywood cinema to Downtown LA and El Segundo. The genres vary but the ambiance is always guaranteed to be a good time.

Cinespia

What summer outdoor movies list would be complete without Cinespia? Located in the Hollywood Forever Cemetary event space, this film series is its own icon around town. Not all Cinespia screenings take place in the famed resting place of Hollywood legends but there are plenty of films to choose from for your Cinespia adventure.

Pleasant Valley Movies in the Park

For a delightful family-friendly evening, Pleasant Valley Movies in the Park brings cinema to Camarillo. On select Fridays from June through August you can watch free movies in the park, enjoy live music, and play family games. 

Electric Dusk Drive-In

We love a good old-fashioned drive-in! Head over to Glendale for Electric Dusk Drive-In and enjoy features like Ferris Buellers Day Off and more.

What: Central Coast Electric Boats and Channel Islands Yacht Club present their annual 4th of July Electric Boat Parade. The event takes place around the east and west channels of Channel Islands Harbor with more than 50 patriotic-themed electric boats participating.

Off the 405

What: One of the westside’s best summer traditions returns to The Getty! Enjoy stunning hilltop sunset views and music at Off the 405. The annual event returns for the first time since 2019 for a lineup of delightful free Saturday night concerts. In addition, you’ll get to visit the exhibits which stay open late for the music series. 

Rodeo Drive Concours d’Elegance

What: Make your way to Beverly Hills for the 27th Annual Concours d’Elegance. This father’s Day tradition brings over 50 classic cars to view on Rodeo Drive. The event will kick off at 9:30 am with a rally of 50 of the “world’s finest, fastest and most unique automobiles”. Admission to the event is free and open to the public. In addition, this year’s Concours d’Elegance will showcase Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.

Juneteenth Community Marketplace

Where: Woodley Park | Van Nuys

What: Don’t miss this family-friendly celebration in honor of Juneteenth. The Zawadi Cultural Collective and Black in the Valley will be hosting a Juneteenth Community Marketplace this Saturday. The event will include children’s activities, music, raffles, speakers, and Black small-business owners’ information and sales. Guests can bring their own picnic, blankets, and lawn chairs to enjoy the day at Woodley Park.

Concerts at Warner Park – Valley Cultural Foundation

What: The Valley Cultural Foundations summer season kicks off this Sunday with Terrell Edwards and Brittney Crush, with Balafo. As always, the event will open with new and up-and-coming artists and patrons can bring their own blanket or chair for seating. Ojai Wine Festival

What: Say hi to Ojai’s annual Wine Festival. Returning for its 34th year, the Ojai Annual Wine festival includes wine and beer tasting, food, live music, and more. In addition, there will be arts and crafts vendors, free boat rides, and even a VIP lounge. Likewise, even though the event is only for adults, there will be some family-friendly activities as well.

Heritage Square Summer Concert Series

What: With the arrival of summer you can always expect one thing…summer concert series! Heritage Square invites you to join them for the return of their 10-week music series run kicking off this Friday, June 17. Enjoy musical styles ranging from Reggae to Latin, Jazz, and rock. Zimmerman Automobile Driving Museum

Any father who likes cars and motoring will surely be delighted to spend time at the Zimmerman Automobile Driving Museum in El Segundo. You can browse the extensive displays of classic, vintage, and antique vehicles. Likewise, you’ll find quite a few that once belonged to famous names from throughout history. Marina Del Rey Dinner Cruise

Catalina Island

Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum

Located in Simi Valley, the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum host a special Father’s Day event each year. L.A. Pride in the Park

Where: June 11 

What: Make your way over to Chinatown for L.A. Pride in the Park. As Pride Month celebration continues throughout the city the likes of Christina Aguilera, Anitta, Chika, and more will take the stage at L.A. State Historic Park. The Christopher Street West-produced concert will feature two stages with all sorts of LGBTQ+ programming between them.

101 Festival

When: Chinatown

Where: June 11 – June 12

What: The Hollywood Bowl’s centennial season kicks off this weekend with a bang and free shows at both the Bowl and the Ford. Enjoy music by DJ Cut Chemist, percussionist Sheila E., singer Mon Laferte, singer-songwriter Ben Harper and a whole bunch more at this weekend-long event!

American Indian Arts Marketplace

When: June 11 – June 12 

Where: Griffith Park

What: The American Indian Arts Marketplace will bring art, athletics, music, food, dance, performances, and shopping to Griffith Park this weekend. Have fun at this weekend-long event which is the largest of its kind in Southern California. The festival will bring together more than 200 Native American artists (representing more than 40 tribes) its the annual showcase. 

 

WESTSIDE & BEACH COMMUNITIES | JUNE 10 – JUNE 12 WEEKEND EVENTS

The Lost Murals of Renaissance Rome + Judy Baca: Hitting the Wall

When: Westside

Where: Until September 4 

What: Take yourself back to the forgotten surroundings of the Romans with “The Lost Murals of Renaissance Rome”. See the familiar stately walls of Rome, once adorned with elaborate frescoes. From there find your way home with “Judy Baca: Hitting the Wall” which examines the design, painting, destruction, and restoration of the artist’s 1984 Olympics mural.

Persia: Ancient Iran and the Classical World

Where: Getty Villa

What: Remnants of architecture, religion, and court culture are on display at the Getty Villa. See this limited exhibit focused on the ancient Persian empires.

Montana Avenue Sidewalk Sale

What: In the mood for shopping and freebies? Make your way over to Montana Avenue for its seasonal Sidewalk Sale. Shops up and down the street will have great deals and discounts for this one-day event.

In addition, enjoy performances by Lil’ Kim, Jessie J, Marina, and Years & Years at the OUTLOUD: Raising Voices concert.

Getty 25 Festivals

What: It’s time for the 45th annual Scandinavian Festival. This celebration of Nordic culture is one of the largest in SoCal and is not to be missed. Likewise, the festival will include music, dancing, cooking and craft demonstrations, specialty Nordic craft vendors, and activities for people of all ages!

Neftin Westlake Mazda Love Run 2022 5K/10K/1 Mile and Half Marathon 

When: June 5

Where: 3011 Townsgate Rd | Westlake Village

What: Fit, fun, and on the run for the Neftin Westlake Mazda Love Run! The annual marathon will support Senior Concerns’ Meals on Wheels Program along with other resources for the organization. Participants can choose to join the 5K, 10K, 1 mile or half marathon, and registration is still open.
