In a recent LA Business Journal article, LABJ spoke with experts on how lockdown led to a greater want of exclusivity. Graham Culp, a partner at Meriwether believes it comes down to pent-up demand, stating demand was “off historic levels, but we didn’t see a lot of attrition.”. It was not until the last few months, as Culp continued on, that they saw a vastly growing demand for membership applications. With new social clubs arising, for what seems like every other day, Angeleno’s are left with a vast array of options. With the recent opening of Britely, the club joins San Vicenta Bungalows, Soho House, and many more.

From a $100k LG TV to DMs on Clubhouse | This week’s Tech News

Much like the purpose of the feature, Twitter’s Fleets were here a gone before we noticed or remembered to use it. The disappearing Tweet feature will be shutting down due to low usage, after launching just eight months ago. So what will be replacing that space at the top of your feed? Spaces…literally. Spaces — Twitter’s live audio chat rooms will take over the top of your timeline beginning August 3rd. In other great news, your traditional tweet composer will also get an update. Expect to see more camera editing features from Fleets, like text-formatting and GIF stickers over photos. Fleets were launched by Twitter as an attempt to get more users actively tweeting on the app. In a statement by Twitter’s VP of Product, Ilya Brown, the company admits the usage results were less than favorable. Stating, “In the time since we introduced Fleets to everyone, we haven’t seen an increase in the number of new people joining the conversation with Fleets like we hoped.” So use your Fleets while it’s there before it takes its final flight on August 3rd.

The multi-year collaboration between Fb and UC San Francisco, Project Steno aimed to create a system that translates brain activity into words. This week Facebook announced it would be backing off the idea of a commercial head-mounted brain-reading device. Instead, the company will continue its focus on building out wrist-worn interfaces instead. In a press release, Facebook clarified its current objectives. Stating, “To be clear, Facebook has no interest in developing products that require implanted electrodes,” Facebook said in the press release. They continued by stating, “while we still believe in the long-term potential of head-mounted optical BCI technologies, we’ve decided to focus our immediate efforts on a different neural interface approach that has a nearer-term path to market.”

This means you will now be able to chat one-on-one, in groups, and send links. Users will not be able to send images or videos, but a spokesperson says that functionality is coming. There will also be additional features on the way in the near future. The new feature was designed to help moderators chat among themselves during an active room. It will also let people connect after an event and be able to foster text conversations that otherwise would have to occur in a separate app. Backchannel will bring Clubhouse up to par with its competitors while giving users more of a reason to stay on the app than to venture off.

Twitter Tests Exclusive Friends List Tweeting Option

In this week’s news, Twitter has shared early design concepts for changing how you tweet. While it’s not quite the edit button we wanted, you may be able to single out your tweets to an exclusive friends list. One of three early design concepts for new features that Twitter is considering includes a “Trusted Friends” list. The feature would let users limit the audience for select tweets to a smaller circle of close friends. Consider it similar to how Instagram lets you select “Close Friends” for IG Story, but without an expiration date. The other feature being tested is “Facets”. This feature will let you categorize your tweets when you send them. The company has stated that these ideas are in their early stages and none are currently in active development.

NASA Seeks to Reshape Travel with Quiet Supersonic Airplane

NASA has joined with Lockheed Martin to design a supersonic aircraft so quiet, you’ll hardly notice it zooming by in the sky. The X-59 aircraft was designed by the duo to fly faster than the speed of sound without generating an explosive sonic boom. As most familiar with supersonic aircrafts, the sonic boom has been a deterrent for the plane becoming a pilar of modern travel. A traditional supersonic aircraft creates a sonic boom in excess of 100 decibels when it flies. With the X-59, NASA has stated its aircraft is at 75 decibels, about as loud as a car door slamming down the street. If NASA’s can succeed, flying faster than the speed of sound may return for the first time since the Concorde was retired in 2003.

Resumes can be submitted to the app now through July 31.

Home Tips: How to Repot your Overgrown Houseplant

If you are a plant parent, it is important to consider the health of your houseplant. This is why experts recommend repotting every 12 to 18 months. Below is a rundown of tips you can rely on to re-pot your houseplant in order to keep it thriving.

Remove Your Houseplant from Its Pot

The first step for repotting your plant involves removing it from its current pot. To do this, you can simply hold the plant gently by the main stem, turn it sideways, and tap the bottom of the pot until the houseplant slides out. You just have to be careful and gentle enough to avoid damaging the plant as you remove it from the pot.

Loosen The Roots and Prune Your Houseplant

Once you have removed your houseplant from the pot you should gently loosen the roots with your hands. If there are overgrown threadlike roots, you can prune them off. However, you need to leave the thicker roots at the base of the foliage intact. If your houseplant is root-bound and its roots are growing in tight circles, it is imperative for you to unbind the roots and trim them.

Get a New Potting Mix for Your Houseplant

After working on the roots, you should not plant your houseplant in the old potting mixture. This is because the nutrients in the old potting mix could be insufficient. Therefore, you need to dispose of the old potting mix and replace it with a new potting mix.

Set the Plant Properly

Set your houseplant on top of a fresh layer of potting mix and add more potting mix until the plant is secure. You need to ensure that the plant is centered. Avoid packing too much potting material into the planter since doing so could make it difficult for the roots to breathe. You can then water the plant and place it in an area with plenty of indirect sunlight. It is worth noting that newly repotted houseplants do not need to be fed with fertilizers.

The Root of it All

Overall, you have to remember to repot it after every 12-18 months. Repotting allows you to prune the overgrown roots to make them more efficient in absorbing water and nutrients. It is also an excellent opportunity for you to replace the old nutrient-depleted potting mix with a fresh potting mixture. In a nutshell, repotting your houseplants is one of the most critical houseplant care procedures you need to undertake regularly to keep your indoor jungle thriving.
