Metro has plans to improve service on the old Blue Line. The board of directors has approved an $81.5 million contract that will help reduce delays and improve transportation times.
The contract will add four new interlockings to the Blue Line route, which will help trains switch tracks to avoid construction and other trains that are stalled for maintenance.
According to Metro’s ridership statistics, the Blue Line rail goes from Long Beach to Downtown Los Angeles and carries up to 81,000 riders a day—it’s Metro’s most used above-ground rail line.
Metro says the new interlockings will help the trains arrive every 15 to 20 minutes. This is only one of many upgrades for the Blue Line. Metro also plans to include new train cars, pedestrian bridges and safety signage.
