BoldPas Returns this Saturday for a day of Free Public Art in Old Pasadena

For the second year in a row Boldpas: An Art Takeover of Old Pasadena offers a unique experience of one of Los Angeles County’s most walkable neighborhoods. It’s big. It’s bold. It’s happening on May 12. And most importantly? It’s free and open to the public.

Think of Old Pasadena as a canvas, and Boldpas as an infusion of color to highlight and showcase the surrounding area. Visitors can hang with friends, wander the alleys, talk with artists, and capture plenty of Instagram-worthy content. More than anything, it’s a chance to explore and connect with Pasadena’s creative community.

Temporary art installations will line the historic alleyways of the historic 22-block district. Selected works from L.A. artists will feature a “bold” theme, displaying bright colors, surprising scale, and playfulness. There will also be 30+ Art Stops, live painters, an activity hub, and maps available for self-guided tours. In short, there’s a lot to do.

Pasadena Walking Tours hosts two tours at 12:30pm and 3:00pm, highlighting both the temporary installations and Old Pasadena’s permanent public art, as well as offering a chance to meet the onsite artists. Tours require advance registration.

30+ Art Stops at participating stores and restaurants create the perfect backdrop for selfies and one-of-a-kind photo ops.

Friendship Church Activity Hub offering poetry writers in the “Haiku Garden”, KCRW DJ Glenn Red, food trucks, Friendship Gospel Choir performance, and tours of the historic church

Boldpas takes place on Saturday, May 12, 2018 from noon to 8 p.m. Metro ridership is strongly encouraged, with nearby Gold Line stops at Memorial Park or Del Mar Station.

Listing by Rodeo Realty's Terre Steinbeck acts as venue for pastry chef Chris Ford event

2201 Linda Flora Drive may be a new listing by Rodeo Realty’s Terre Steinbeck, but the property has already had a few celebrities stop by!

In April, Éclat Public Relations hosted a party to honor Chef Chris Ford for his contributions to the pastry world. Terre Steinbeck’s listing was the venue for the event.

Fans of Chris Ford along with many homebuyers attended the party. Economic update for the week ending May 5, 2018

April unemployment rate lowest since 2000 – The Department of Labor Statistics reported that U.S. employers added 164,000 new jobs in April. That was a little below the 190,000 that analysts expected. The unemployment rate dropped to 3.9%, an 18-year low. The unemployment rate has steady declined from its peak of 10% in 2009. Average hourly wages grew just 2.6% from April 2017. This was the most anticipated part of the report. Wage growth has been stagnant, which is unexpected. Usually when the unemployment rate drops there is more competition for workers and wages rise. That has not happened at the rate expected over the last 9 years. In January, wages finally began showing signs of rising when year-over-year wage growth came in at 2.9%, which surpassed analysts. Interest rates began to rise because experts felt that higher wages would give people more spending power and lead to higher inflation. Higher inflation causes interest rates to rise. Stocks slipped because higher wages raise corporate labor costs, and higher interest rates raise their borrowing costs, which lowers profits. It is beginning to appear that January’s wage gain of 2.9% may have been an atypical result, as February and March numbers showed that wages grew 2.7% and April is now back to a 2.6% year-over-year wage gain.

Stocks end week mixed in another turbulent week of trading – Despite a rally on Friday, where the DOW gained 332 points, stocks finished the week mixed. Companies reported strong third quarter earnings, but gave more cautious guidance on future profit increases. Companies expressed more caution because of increased costs of steel and aluminum due to tariffs, increased energy costs (oil prices have increased dramatically), higher interest rates and borrowing costs, and higher wages and labor costs. Friday’s jobs report revealed that wage increases are back to the levels we saw in 2016 and 2017, and not the wage increase levels we had seen at the beginning of 2018, which investors feel will lower pressure on interest rates increases. Stocks rose sharply on Friday after the jobs report was released. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed the week at 24,262.51, down from last week’s close of 24,311.19. It is down 1.8% year-to-date. The S&P 500 closed the week at 2,663.42, almost unchanged from 2,669.91 last week. It’s down 0.4% year-to-date. The NASDAQ closed at 7,209.62, up from 7,119.80 last week. It is up 4.4% year-to-date.

Treasury Bond yields higher this week – The 10-year treasury bond closed the week yielding 2.95% almost unchanged from 2.96% last week.The 30-year treasury bond yield ended the week at 3.12%, slightly down from 3.14% last week.

Mortgage Rates slightly lower this week – The May 3, 2018 Freddie Mac Primary Mortgage Survey reported that the 30-year fixed mortgage rate average was 4.55%, down slightly from last week’s 4.58%. The 15-year fixed was 4.03%, almost unchanged from 4.02% last week. The 5-year ARM was 3.69%, down from 3.74% last week. Rates were slightly lower on Friday, so next week’s rates could be slightly lower.

California’s GDP figures makes it the worlds fifth largest economy – Data released by the Commerce Department showed that California’s GDP exceeded $2.7 trillion in 2017. Only the United States, China, Japan, and Germany surpassed the economic output of California.

Rodeo Realty Pacific Palisades hosts Tres De Mayo Fiesta

Rodeo Realty Pacific Palisades kicked off Cinco de Mayo with a Tres de Mayo Fiesta on Thursday.

The rooftop event included a Mariachi band, drinks, and a taco bar with plenty of guacamole, chips and salsa!

More than 100 people attended the fiesta, which was held from 4 – 8 p.m.

2. Urban Death: Spring, a haunted theater attraction, is coming to Zombie Joe’s Underground Theatre Group in North Hollywood this Friday. 12. Amy Herzog’s Belleville continues its first-ever Los Angeles run at the Pasadena Playhouse this week. Soccer Star Opens Restaurant in Beverly Grove

A modern Italian restaurant called N. 10 recently opened on W. 3rd Street just east of La Cienega Blvd. The new neighborhood addition is a charming date night spot, with lots of handsome leather seating and a street-facing raised patio with a fireplace. It also boasts a world famous athlete as a key backer.

N. 10 takes its name for one of its owners, former Italian professional soccer star and 2006 FIFA World Cup winner Alessandro Del Piero. Del Piero was born in Conegliano, Italy. At just 18, he began playing for Juventus, where he remained for 19 seasons. He wore the number 10 on his jersey throughout his career, which is where the restaurant derives its name.

“Aside from football, opening a restaurant has always been my dream. Living in Los Angeles, I got inspired by the amazing hospitality industry and atmosphere and finally worked hard to make that dream a reality,” Del Piero said. “We found the perfect spot in a great neighborhood full of restaurant life; we couldn’t be happier with the location and venue.”

This particular area of 3rd has seen plenty of new life lately, including Farmhouse across the street and Israeli restaurant Jaffa several blocks east.

American chef Nick Parker and Italian-born chef Fabio Ugoletti run the the N. 10 kitchen. The two combine Ugoletti’s knowledge of old-school Italian food with Parker’s contemporary style. Guests might share a pizza and charcuterie, or delve into the pasta menu for Gnocchi with sausage and back truffles or ravioli stuffed with kale, artichoke and pumpkin seed pesto. Heartier entrees include a sizable and flaky Mediterranean sea bass cartoccio, meaning its cooked in plastic with zucchini, cherry tomatoes, and olives. A favorite entree is the brick chicken, served with a bright salsa verde.

Ugoletti, who grew up in Parma, and says his menu is imbued with both professional and personal experiences.

“More than a contribution from my hometown, there is the desire to convey the love for the quality of food and for the ‘conviviality’ that is perceived in Italy and that I have breathed all my life,” Ugoletti said. “‘Gnocco fritto e salumi (fried dumplings and sausage) is from my childhood in the family; carne cruda is how I like to accompany a good glass of Tuscan wine before starting the meal. Lasagna, freshly baked, has the aroma of my Italian Sundays. Potato gnocchi with mushrooms and truffles has the taste of the walks in the woods. Cartoccio brings me back to the Mediterranean sea breeze on a terrace.”

Behind the bar is a selection of wines—including several Italian wines, but also a fair amount of domestic offerings—and cocktails. Swap the traditional post-meal espresso for the signature No. 10, made with vodka, Bailey’s, vanilla liqueur and chocolate bitters over espresso ice if you’re looking to transition from dinner to cocktails.

N. 10 is located 8436 W 3rd St, Los Angeles. Hours are 5 to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 5 p.m. to midnight on Friday and Saturday.

Saved by The Bell Diner Extends Its Los Angeles Run

Saved By The Bell fans have been waiting patiently and this week Saved by the Max made its Los Angeles debut. Set to resemble The Max, a local hangout in the show, the menu will serve up heavily themed eats like the Kelly Kapowski Monte Cristo, A.C. Sliders, the Bayside Burger, the Preppy BLT and Mac & Screech. As Saved by the Max was a big success in Chicago, reservations are highly encouraged and walk-ups will be limited.

With most (all?) of the reservations filled up, word is out that Saved by the Max will offer a ‘Second Semester’ of seating reservations through September 2019. Those tickets go on sale ($40 a person) this Friday starting at noon.
