Introducing the Rabbit R1, a cutting-edge AI device designed to operate your apps on your behalf
Jesse Lyu, CEO and founder of AI startup Rabbit has introduced the R1, a $199 standalone AI device with ambitious goals. While Lyu doesn’t aim to replace smartphones immediately, he envisions the R1 eventually taking their place. The R1 features a 2.88-inch touchscreen, a rotating camera, and a built-in assistant. Powered by Rabbit OS, the device acts as a universal controller for apps, aiming to provide a seamless experience across various platforms and devices. The initial run of 10,000 R1 units has already sold out, with pre-orders available for a second shipment in the spring.
VinFast unveils a midsize truck and a compact electric utility vehicle (EV) at CES
Vietnamese automaker VinFast showcased its ambitions for the US electric vehicle (EV) market at CES in Las Vegas with the unveiling of a midsize pickup truck and a compact utility EV called the VF3. The company hopes these vehicles will cater to American preferences for trucks and affordable crossovers, potentially gaining a foothold in the US market. However, VinFast has faced challenges in its initial entry into the US market, with its first global vehicle, the VF8, receiving poor reviews. The company, founded in 2017, has received substantial financial support from its founder, Pham Nhat Vuong, and plans to build factories in the US, India, and Indonesia. Despite obstacles, VinFast is determined to establish itself as a contender in the EV market.
Jackery showcases its rooftop tent that doubles as a robust solar generator at CES
Jackery has introduced a rooftop tent concept that functions as a powerful solar generator, allowing cars to go off the grid for extended periods. While currently a concept showcased at CES, Jackery plans to put it into production by the end of 2024. The tent features retractable solar panels that can produce up to 1000W when the car is parked and the tent is open. It’s designed to maximize power generation by filling the entire roof with solar cells, neatly integrating the wiring for the Jackery power station. The tent includes a 1.26kWh E1000 Plus power station, offering various AC output options, and can be charged while driving or from a wall jack. The production version will feature a 400W central panel and a removable, sleekly designed power station. Jackery aims to make expansion kits available and cater to various vehicle sizes, including sedans.
Tesla’s improved 2024 Model 3 is now accessible in the United States
The updated 2024 Tesla Model 3 is now available in North America. This refreshed model features a redesigned front end with improved aerodynamics and new exterior colors. Additionally, it features two available versions: a Long Range AWD model with dual motors and a Rear-Wheel Drive version. The top speed for both versions of the 2024 Model 3 is listed at 125mph, compared to the previous model’s. Tesla highlights upgrades such as acoustic glass for a quieter cabin and improved suspension. Other additions include enhanced interior materials, ventilated seats, customizable ambient lighting, a brighter center touchscreen, and an upgraded sound system with up to 17 speakers.
Mercedes-Benz’s top-notch voice assistant is receiving an AI enhancement
Mercedes-Benz is enhancing its in-car voice assistant, MBUX Virtual Assistant. Generative AI will be added to create a more human-like and personalized interface for drivers. The next-generation MB.OS operating system will power this AI-driven assistant. Likewise, this enables predictive behavior such as playing morning news or joining a meeting based on the driver’s schedule. While Mercedes already has voice-command capabilities, generative AI aims to make interactions more natural and reduce false positives. The upgraded assistant will rely on large-language models (LLMs) for natural dialogue. In addition, it will offer customization options, including tone and speaking style. Mercedes has not disclosed the specific AI technology provider it is working with. Other automakers like Volkswagen, BMW, and Hyundai are also enhancing in-car voice assistants with LLMs.
