Weekend Events: October 18-20

It’s October, so there are a few precious weeks left to hit up costume stores and stockpile some of the best Halloween candy. If Halloween isn’t your holiday, then celebrate the end of summertime crowds and enjoy other fun festivities in Los Angeles this season.

1.  I LIKE SCARY MOVIES

Location: 2118 7th Pl, Los Angeles, CA
When: October 16 – November 14, 2019

‘I Like Scary Movies’ is an interactive art installation inspired by horror movies like “The Shining,” with plenty of selfie opportunities at The Desmond. An immersive world of horror where visitors become both artists and subjects.

2. THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA

Location: 135 N. Grand Ave., Los Angeles, CA
When:October 12-20, 2019

It doesn’t get any better than this: Renee Fleming, Dove Cameron, and Brian Stokes Mitchell in a ravishing musical. This breezy musical is about a woman and daughter who travel to Italy and the Italian who falls for the daughter, at Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. The approximate running time is two hours and twenty minutes, including one intermission.

3. OKTOBERFEST

Location: 8333 W. Torrance Blvd., Torrance, CA
When: October 4 – 27, 2019

The village is the home of the oldest Oktoberfest celebration in Southern California where they are hosting our 51st-anniversary event! This year, the event is moving back into the restaurant where it all started! No tent this year, but rather, a “bier all” style celebration.

4. SOCAL VEGFEST

Location: 88 Fair Drive Costa Mesa, CA
When: October 19 – 20

The 5th Annual SoCal VegFest is a one-of-kind event designed to engage curiosity and inspire consciousness in people of all ages. The purpose is to introduce Southern Californians and others to the benefits of healthy conscious living.

5. SHERMAN OAKS STREET FAIR

Location: 14827 Ventura Blvd. Suite 207, Sherman Oaks, CA
When: October 20, 2019

The largest single-day event in the San Fernando Valley! The 29th Annual Sherman Oaks Street Fair attracts over 100,000 people from all walks of life. The fair takes place along a half-mile stretch in the heart of Sherman Oaks.

6. WESTEDGE DESIGN FAIR

Location: 3021 Airport Ave., Santa Monica, CA
When: October 24 – 27, 2019

This fair offers the best in modern design in an environment designed to engage, entertain and inspire. The fair offers the opportunity to shop from premium home furnishings brands-many new to the West Coast and meet the designers behind thousands of inspiring products.

7. UNICEF MASQUERADE BALL

Location: 627 N. La Peer Dr., West Hollywood, CA
When: October 26, 2019

Take out the most mysterious mask you have to wear to this surrealist postmodern-themed soiree at Clifton’s Republic. Come to the fancy affair ready for champagne and an open bar, plus a performance from Foster the People and a DJ set by Mayer Hawthorne. All proceeds benefit UNICEF’s lifesaving work around the world.

8. PSYCHO LIVE WITH ORCHESTRA

Location: 929 S. Broadway, Los Angeles, CA
When: October 25 – 31

There are several truly iconic film scores…and then there’s Bernard Herrmann’s Psycho. Hitchcock’s masterpiece of suspense on the big screen is accompanied by a live performance of the hair-raising score played by the LA Opera Orchestra. Come experience one of Hollywood’s most iconic movies paired with the intensity of live music.

9. HAUNTED HALLOWEEN HAUNT

Location: CityRace at Biddy Mason Park
When: October 26, 2019

10. ANAHEIM HALLOWEEN PARADE

Location: Downtown Anaheim, CA
When: October 26, 2019

Almost 100 years, the Anaheim Fall Festival & Halloween Parade has brought the community together for an evening of Spooktacular family fun, enjoyed by nearly 50,000 attendees each year. Special events include the Kiddie Costume Contest and the Halloween Pooch Pawrade!
