Rodeo Realty agents take part in Hope of the Valley’s Thanksgiving Banquet

On Wednesday, November 22, Hope of the Valley provided the largest Thanksgiving meal in the Valley at their Help Center in Van Nuys.

Several Rodeo Realty agents were in attendance helping serve more than 1,000 traditional Thanksgiving meals to the homeless and hungry.

In order to help the ministry offset the cost of feeding so many hungry people, Rodeo Realty also sponsored several tables for the event. The company cares about the less fortunate and is happy to continue sponsoring the event and also volunteer.

For the Thanksgiving banquet, homeless individuals and people in need were bused to the center from all over the Valley to enjoy a gourmet Thanksgiving meal. In addition to enjoying a meal with all the fixings, guests also were able to participate in the fourth annual street fair where community partners gave away blankets, socks, tooth brushes, sleeping bags, medical exams, and much more! Hope of the Valley also gave away two cars!

Economic update for the week ending November 18, 2017

Stocks end week lower on tax reform uncertainty and falling oil prices –  Stocks fell for the second straight week. There was unusual volatility this week. The Dow dropped 168 points in the first three days of the week as it looked like tax reform was losing some support in Congress. On Thursday, the House passed their version and the Dow gained almost 200 points. On Friday, a few Republican Senators said they may not support the Senate version and The Dow dropped 100 points to end the week down for the second straight week.  Meanwhile, both the Senate and the House removed changes to how they would be taxing stock options for tech firms, after industry leaders argued that higher taxes on options would limit their ability to attract talent. This helped the tech heavy NASDAQ, which closed up for the week. The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended the week at 23,358.24, down from 23,422.22 last week. It’s up 18.2% year-to-date. The S&P 500 closed the week at 2,578.85, down slightly from its close last week of 2,582.30. The S&P is up 15.2% YTD. The NASDAQ closed the week at 6,782.79, up from its last week’s close of 6,750.94.  It’s up 26% year-to-date.

Bond yields drop this week – The 10-year Treasury bond closed the week at 2.35%, down from 2.40% last week. The 30-year treasury yield ended the week at 2.78%, down from 2.88% last week. Mortgage rates follow treasury bond yields so we watch bond yields carefully.

Mortgage Rates up slightly this week – The November 16, 2017 Freddie Mac Primary Mortgage Survey reported that the 30-year fixed mortgage rate average was 3.95%, up from 3.90% last week. The 15-year fixed was 3.31%, up from 3.24% last week. The 5-year ARM was 3.21%, almost unchanged from 3.22% last week.

California jobless rate falls to 4.9% – California posted strong job gains in October, adding 31,700 net new non-farm jobs. That brought the state’s unemployment rate down from 5.1% in September to 4.9% in October. Wage growth slowed as hourly wages were 3.2% higher in October from one year earlier, down from September’s wage growth of 3.8%, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. California is outpacing the U.S. as the national rate of wage growth was 2.4% in October.

New housing starts rebounds in October – The Commerce Department reported that new housing starts jumped 13.7% in October. That was the highest level since October 2016. September’s new home starts pace was down considerably because of a very steep drop in new construction in hurricane damaged areas. Because September’s figures were depressed, a 13.7% month-over-month increase is not as exciting as it sounds. Yet it was the highest number of permits pulled for new home construction since October 2016.

The housing sales and price report should be released next week by The California Association of Realtors.

Have a great weekend,
Syd

The Ultimate Moving Checklist

If you’re about to move home, chances are you’re probably feeling a little stressed. Don’t worry; it’s perfectly understandable. Moving house is a huge job, and it’s usually associated with emotional upheaval. During such a stressful time, you need to ensure that you’re managing your time effectively.

So, if you need some help, take a look at the tips in this Ultimate Moving Checklist.

What’s The Same About Every Move?

Three things are the same with every move, whether you’re moving locally, around the corner or moving internationally.

1. A Small Move is a Good Move

It goes without saying that the less you have to move, the easier your move will be. So, when you’re going through your things and deciding on what you want to take with you, you need to be quite ruthless. There’s simply no point in packing, moving and then unpacking inessential items. If you haven’t used something in five years, or don’t love it anymore, get rid of it. Moving house is the perfect opportunity for a clean out, followed by a garage sale.

2. An Early Start Is a Good Start

If you start early you can do a little bit each week instead of having to cram the entire process into a couple of days. Leaving everything until the last minute puts you and your family under unnecessary pressure. There are lots of things you can get started on early, such as:

a) Getting a volume estimate and a quote on the move so you can start creating an itemized budget of your moving expenses

b) Deciding if you require storage and getting it booked in

c) Packing rarely used items like unseasonal clothing, photos, books and CDs

d) Considering whether you need to organize pet or car This can be particularly important to organize if you’re moving interstate or overseas

e) Hire a handyman if you need to complete any property maintenance tasks prior to house settlement or final inspection on your rental property.

A Month Before Moving Day

Once you’ve taken into account the two truths of every move you can start making your way through the checklist, with a month to go before move day you can:

  • Start taking stock of all of your fragile and precious items so they get special attention during the move
  • If you’re renting, give your landlord at least 30 days notice
  • Consult the manufacturer instructions to figure out how to move whitegoods properly. For instance, when it comes to moving washing machines, you need to install their transit bolts to prevent the internal drum bumping and breaking while in transit
  • Organise an insurance policy through your moving company and check that it covers you and your belongings in all necessary circumstances
  • Dispose of any items that are prohibited from being moved and empty any gas and air bottles
  • Collect any spare keys that you have given to family, friends and service providers so they are ready for handover
  • Contact your employer and organise time off. Depending on the size of your move you may need the day before and the day after your move off
  • Notify important service providers of your change of address. This might include contacting your bank, doctor, insurance providers, and state road authority
  • Take an inventory of the food in your freezer and your pantry. Then create a meal plan designed to use as much of these foods as possible
