Disney Pride in Concert

Where: Disney Concert Hall | DTLA

What: Tune in to melodies from The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, Mary Poppins, Coco, Zootopia, and Wreck-It Ralph, along with a few choices from Disney parks, during this Pride month presentation. The performance is brought to you by the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles, taking place at Disney Hall.

KCRW Summer Nights

What: Everyone’s cherished NPR member station contributes to a variety of summer concerts, and DJ sets at communal plazas and esteemed museums, and this summer’s agenda is especially robust. The series commences this Saturday with one of our crowd favorites: a late-night celebration at Chinatown Central Plaza.

Harry Potter in Concert

When: June 24

Where: Hollywood Bowl

What: The Hollywood Bowl is a pretty magical place to watch a movie—allow us to maybe even call it the Hogwarts of L.A.’s outdoor theaters—which makes it the perfect place for a series of special Harry Potter screenings and live scores. Watch the eighth and final film (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2) in this beloved series on a giant screen while the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra performs every note from the movie’s whimsical score (originally penned by John Williams, but by this point in the series helmed by Alexandre Desplat).

The Venice Fest

What: Support local businesses at this Mar Vista celebration, which unites over 100 vendors, typically on a seasonal basis. An initiative of the Gym Venice and Shop Morpheus, this event spotlights artisans, various food options, and DJs along Venice Boulevard, stretching from Centinela Avenue to Grand View Boulevard.

The Friends Experience: The One Near Long Beach

What: Step inside recreations of classic Friends sets and pose in front of familiar costumes at this photo-friendly touring pop-up in Lakewood (Lakewood Center, 4661 Silva St).

Grand Views: The Immersive World of Panoramas

When: Glendale

What: Experience the enchanting union of L.A.’s unique Velaslavasay Panorama and Glendale’s Forest Lawn Museum as they present an exhibition of striking large-scale paintings. This immersive display is categorized into three sections: the early history of panoramas, crucifixion panoramas, and panoramas representing Hollywood and Los Angeles.

Street Food Cinema

Where: Glendale

What: Combine dinner and a movie into one delightful package by trailing the food trucks. In the spring, summer, and fall, Street Food Cinema organizes a sequence of alfresco events featuring screenings of popular movies, an array of gourmet food trucks, and live performances from local bands. Some of these outdoor locales are dog-friendly, making it possible for your furry film fan to join the fun.

San Fernando Valley Pride

What: Don’t miss an unforgettable Pride event that will celebrate and honor the diversity and resilience of our LGBTQ+ community! The event will kick off with a march through the streets. After the march, we’ll continue the festivities with a fabulous block party featuring music, food, entertainment, art, and a resource fair.

Camarillo Old Town Friday Night Cruise Night

Where: Old Town Camarillo

What: The Camarillo Old Town Friday Night Cruise is back for 2023 on the 4th Friday of the month from April through September from 4-7 p.m. Drive down Ventura Boulevard with your classic car between 4 pm -7 pm. Try some local takeout by supporting the Camarillo Old Town eateries with their pre-order and/or take-out options. 

Santa Barbara Lavender Festival

When: June 24, 10 am – 4 pm

Where: Libbey Park

What: The Santa Barbara (formerly Ojai Valley prior to 2023) Lavender Festival is planned for Saturday, June 24, 2023, from 10 am to 4 pm. at the Old Mission Santa Barbara. More details to come at santabarbaralavenderfestival.com.

Heritage Square Summer Concert Series in Oxnard

When: June 16th to August 18th

Where: 715 South A Street, Oxnard

What: Oxnard’s Heritage Square Summer Concert Series returns in 2023 for another 10-week run. The concerts offer entertainment to suit every musical preference – styles range from Reggae to Big Band and from Latin Jazz to Rock.

This curated exhibition showcases over 120 distinctive pieces and archival material, exploring Haring’s unique legacy in pop art over the past four decades.

What: The third biennial, focused on how artists are expanding the limits of clay art, is presented by L.A.’s unique public exhibition space dedicated to contemporary craft and community-oriented folk art. The exhibition showcases the work of 14 artists who innovatively connect the intrinsic qualities of clay to elements of land and water.

Melrose Rooftop Theatre

When: Until June 30 

Where: E.P. & L.P.

What: E.P. & L.P., a trendy restaurant and rooftop bar in West Hollywood, offers more than just modern American cuisine and artisanal cocktails. The venue also accommodates the Melrose Rooftop Theatre, an outdoor film series that operates for most of the year. These screenings take place on the rooftop area connected to its al fresco bar, L.P.

What: Today’s claims of censorship may seem dramatic, but years ago, the government truly enforced blacklisting in the entertainment industry due to perceived beliefs. This Skirball exhibit examines the 1947 House Un-American Activities Committee hearings, Hollywood’s response, and the blacklist’s impact, particularly on Jewish creatives and executives

Dawoud Bey & Carrie Mae Weems: In Dialogue

Where: The Getty Center | Westside 

What: This traveling photography exhibit showcases four decades of creative collaboration between Dawoud Bey and Carrie Mae Weems. Having first crossed paths in Harlem during the 1970s, the duo has maintained a strong friendship while exploring common themes of race, power, and representation in their work, centered around the Black community.

Conejo Orchid Society Annual Show and Sale in Thousand Oaks

Where: Thousand Oaks Library

What: See an exhibit of members’ orchids in full bloom. A wide variety of orchids (nursery plants and members’ plants) will be available for sale along with orchid planting mix and fertilizer. Other garden plants will also be available.

Thousand Oaks Pop-Up Arts & Music Fest

When: June 2 

Where: Stagecoach Inn Museum

What: The festival features “pop-up” public performances at various locations throughout Thousand Oaks. The goal of the festival is to provide residents with an opportunity to actively participate in and enjoy the arts without having to come to the theatre. People are encouraged to bring their own chair/blanket, food, and drink and come enjoy great entertainment on a summer evening.

Wine Brew & K9 Crew Event Hosted by Ventura Sheriff’s K9 Foundation 

When: June 3, 1pm – 5pm

Where: 3370 Sunset Valley Rd, Moorpark

What: The Ventura Sheriff’s K9 Foundation invites you to the “Wine, Brew & K9 Crew” event on Saturday, June 3, 2023. Fiesta Hermosa

What: Immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of this arts festival, delight in exquisite food and melodious tunes, followed by a refreshing Pacific swim. With an improved layout featuring on-street stalls along Hermosa and Pier Avenues, live music on the beach, and a dedicated carnival and arts festival near the Hermosa Beach Community Center, this event promises an unforgettable experience.

L.A. Zine Fest

Where: Long Beach

What: Step away from digital screens and dive into the rich universe of printed literature at L.A. Zine Fest. This day-long event hosts nearly 200 exhibitors of zines and indie press publications from across the nation, serving as a hub for SoCal enthusiasts to exchange art and ideas. Be sure to check out the free readings and workshops at the festival.

Stand Up for Pups

Where: Playa Vista 

What: Experience a comedy night with your furry friend at Annenberg PetSpace, featuring performances by J.D. Witherspoon, Jay Washington, Shea Freeman, Valerie Tosi, and Chris Greene, all curated by host Caitlin Benson and backed by DJ VFRESH. Your ticket not only includes two drinks but also contributes to the PetSpace Extraordinary Care Fund, making for an entertaining and meaningful evening.

FREE Home Composting Workshop

Where: Lopez Canyon Environmental Center | Sylmar

What: This workshop will teach you how to turn kitchen scraps and yard trimmings into a nutrient-rich soil amendment. Home composting is taught by a team of ten rotating LA Sanitation & Environment green waste specialists. Each participant will take home a free garden plant at the end of the event. Some workshops even have surprise guests!

Topanga Days Country Fair

Where: Topanga 

What: Experience a slice of bohemian life at the Topanga Canyon Memorial Day weekend festival, a beloved local tradition imbued with music, food, arts, and an homage to Mother Earth. Despite its growing popularity, the event maintains its hippie charm with plenty of vegan vendors, healing arts, local bands, and a unique DIY Memorial Day parade. Children can enjoy their own arts and crafts section, making this a perfect getaway for the whole family.

I Madonnari Italian Street Painting Festival

When: May 27, 10am – 6pm

Where: Old Mission Santa Barbara

What: Madonnari, or street painters, transform the Santa Barbara Mission plaza each year over Memorial Day weekend using pastels on pavement to create 130 vibrant and colorful, large-scale images. The event is produced by the Children’s Creative Project. The I Madonnari Italian Street Painting Festival will be back in person over Memorial Day Weekend 2023, May 27-29. at the Old Mission Santa Barbara, 2100 Laguna Street. Festival hours are 10am to 6pm.

46th Annual Ojai Art in the Park

When: May 27, 10am – 5pm

Where: Libbey Park

What: The Ojai Art Center hosts its 46th annual Art in the Park celebration on Memorial Day weekend. Art in the Park is an annual tradition started in 1977 by local artists at the Ojai Art Center. Presented by the Ojai Art Center, the oldest non-profit art center in California, the festival attracts artists from near and far. The relaxed atmosphere and approachable artists draw crowds (between 3,000 – 5,000) from Ojai and neighboring communities.

Tiny Porch Concerts

SoCal Ride & Rally to Defeat ALS

When: May 6 

Where: Dos Vientos Community Park

What: The 7th annual SoCal Ride and Rally to Defeat ALS is a one-day community event designed to appeal to every level of cyclist, hiker, walker, and supporter of The Golden West Chapter of The ALS Association. It’s all happening on May 6 at Dos Vientos Community Park from 7:30am to 2pm. This fundraiser helps support members of the local community who are impacted by ALS Disease.

Simi Valley Street Fair

Where: Simi Town Center Way

What: The Simi Valley Street Fair is planned for Saturday, May 6, 2023, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Simi Town Center Way.
