10 Rules to Keep in Mind When Decorating a Living Room

When it comes to your home, the style of is all about you. And when it comes to the living room, it has stood the test of time in being your sanctuary. It’s where you entertain guest, binge watch Netflix and enjoy time with family and friends. So before you give it the full make-over it is important to remember these 10 tips!

Designer Celily Mendell’s home in Alamo, California near San Francisco.
  1. Focus on focal point: When rearranging a room, it is helpful to find the room’s natural focal point and center the room around this main feature. Typically, this is the first area that is noticing upon entering a room.

Designer Celily Mendell’s home in Alamo, California near San Francisco.
  2. Create a center: In most homes, the coffee table’s placement marks the center of the living room. For larger rooms, try spacing out your furniture to incorporate multiple center points.
  3. Make it functional: Your living room layout should always have a functional furniture arrangement. A great way to start is to decide how the room will be used, overall style and number of pieces you will need.
  4. Select scaled pieces: Selecting pieces differing in size and height will create a well-balanced atmosphere. Arrange the scaled items, beginning with the largest, around the main furniture.
  5. Add dimension: Creating depth to your living room is the final step when arranging your living room. Make sure each piece is at centered and at eye level when you hang them on your walls.
  6. Incorporate lighting: It’s important to layer light sources when creating a brighter atmosphere in your living room. Arranging furniture around your windows is a simple way to achieve this goal because the natural sunlight pours in.
  7. Add an area rug: When selecting a rug for your living room, it is helpful to choose one that’ll complement your color scheme, furniture and size of the room. A good way to measure the length of your rug no more than 6-12 inches away from the walls.
  8. Mix and match: Playing around with different colors, patterns and textures is a great way to personalize your living room. Adding an accent chair to a room of color and pattern is a way to add more style that’s not overwhelming.
  9. Create symmetry: Achieve a symmetrical space by arranging furniture on opposing sides. With the coffee table serving as your center point, it is easy to create a well-balanced living room.
  10. Think about traffic: Consider how many people you will be entering and using this space before you arrange your living room. Choosing the right furniture to accommodate any issues regarding traffic flow.

Ben Bacal Launches Real Estate App ‘Rila’

The mobile app will allow agents to upload their listings and market properties for free.

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif (June 28, 2019)- Ben Bacal recently launched his new mobile application, Rila. The app aims to bring “real estate and technology on step closer together” as quoted in Real Deal.  The app went live on Monday and is already gaining traction.

Similar to the style of Instagram, agents and consumers can browse properties in their neighborhood through a feed. Agents that are verified will have access to post their own listings. While consumers will be able to add to a property’s profile by posting photos and comments. Consumers will also have the option to click on a listing and have access to the listing agent’s contact information.

Ben described the purpose of the app to Real Deal by saying “We’re trying to empower agents to get leads for themselves without having to pay exorbitant fees on these big tech companies that are costing millions of dollars”.

Rila will also allow for crowdsourced, “visceral” content allowing any user to comment on a listing in the app. Currently, the app is being promoted in California, with market nationally in the near future.

To read the rest of Ben Bacals app Rila and its featured article in The Real Deal click here.

Rila is designed to put the power of real estate info in your hands, while also being purpose-built to offer access to pocket listings before they’re made public.

And, for all of those agents out there, marketing your listings is fast, simple and 100% free. You can list properties in less than 3 minutes, keep them updated and current by posting new content, and generate solid leads even if you don’t have a listing—all for free. You feel it when you walk into a room. The colors on the wall almost instantly evoke a certain feeling. So when it comes to your abode why not paint your home to fit your mood? Make your house a true sanctuary. Read below for a list of colors to match every emotion!

Mood: Warm and Cozy

Reds, yellows, and oranges are considered warm colors and draw inspiration from elements in nature like fire and the sun. Layering warm tones—think: terra cotta or coral—with a honey-hued wood creates an inviting and cozy feel in any room.

Mood: Relaxed

A color palette of beige, warm whites and green mixed with natural wood feels relaxed and grounded. Bringing the outdoors in is a popular design mantra for a reason—we crave nature’s lush hues. Greens, in particular, remind us of spring and enliven us with a feeling of renewal.

Mood: Refreshed

There’s no more refreshing color than soft blue-green. Expansive and boundless, like the sky and the ocean, this hue gives us room to breathe.
