Carlitos Gardel Restaurant

When it comes to under-the-radar gems, Carlitos Gardel is the perfect spot. The Argentinian restaurant offers deliciously sizzling steaks and a fantastic selection of wine. Certainly, with that in mind, it’s easy to see why the establishment has been operating since 1996. So what are you waiting for?

Gogo’s Tacos

Location: 3660 Beverly Blvd. | Los Angeles

Here in LA, we have a plethora of taco spots and are ways welcoming new ones. As is the case at Gogo’s Tacos, from Guerrilla Tacos co-founder Brittney Valles. Enjoy tasty carne asada, mushroom, or shrimp tacos at this new and colorful LA spot.

etta Culver City

More of the Midwest makes its way to LA with the opening of etta in Culver City. The popular Chicago restaurant is serving up its Italian-inspired dishes to Angeleno’s with flare. Likewise, with options like blistered pizzas, pasta, and rustic grilled proteins, etta has plenty of hearty options to enjoy this fall. 

Sa’Moto

Step inside Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto’s latest LA foray with Sa’Moto. The pan-Asian eatery offers delicious dumplings, sushi rolls, and noodle soups in a relaxed space to try this October.

Little Coyote

Location: 3500 N Los Coyotes Diagonal | Long Beach

When it comes to dining in Long Beach, Little Coyote has long been a popular choice. The full-service eatery offers patio dining and an expanded menu of delicious “fried things”. Consider it your cheat day in October and enjoy the best chicken parm sandwich you are likely to have ever had!

Casita Mexican Restaurant & Bar

Location: 14015 Ventura Boulevard, Sherman Oaks, CA 91423

From the same owners that opened the upscale robata spot Taisho comes Casita Mexican restaurant and Bar. The Trendy Sherman Oaks eatery offers dishes like flaming panela cheese, sala roja, and charred citrus. Or you can indulge in dishes like the bomba rice with coconut milk and lobster or the A5 wagyu tacos.

When it comes to Phillip Frankland Lee, you can always expect nothing but the best. With Scratch|Bar and Pasta|Bar, Lee’s Sushi|Bat completes a trifecta of next-level culinary mastery. Of course locals in Encino, already know this sushi spot’s highly curated and specialized omakase experience is worth every penny and repeat visits. 

Mantee Cafe

Location: 10962 Ventura Blvd | Studio City

A family-owned Lebanese and Armenian restaurant in Studio City, Manatee Cafe has much to enjoy. Likewise, the Mediterranean-style home-cooked dishes and sweets will have you feeling like a part of the family after just one bite.

Dong Ting Spring

Location: 520 N Ventu Park Rd Ste. 150 | Newbury Park

If you are looking for authentic Hunanese food, Dong Ting Spring is the place for you. The Newbury Park restaurant has a large menu of options. Most importantly, our favorite has to be the lamb in golden soup and mashed eggplant with century egg.

Decker Kitchen

Location: 4661 Lakeview Canyon Rd. | Westlake Village

A passion for bread, wine, and more are what you can expect to find at Decker Kitchen in Westlake Village. Most importantly, the New American restaurant has freshly baked sourdough bread topped with feta mousse and heirloom tomatoes that are truly out of this world. Likewise, you can also find a vast menu of dining options, with most ingredients sourced from local farms. 

Old Place

Location: 29983 Mulholland Hwy. | Agoura Hills

If you want a fun dose of nostalgia with quality food, look no further than Old Place. The Agoura Hills eatery is both saloon and steakhouse in what was formally a general store in the 1800s. Take a trip to the Wild West and bite into delicious steak sandwiches and the best cinnamon rolls in town.

Fig Restaurant

Location: Downtown Santa Monica

Head over to the Fairmont Miramar Hotel for fresh summer bites to delight the senses. Fig offers an array of delicious options, all while sitting seaside. Need we say more?

Ryla

Location: Hermosa Beach

With a split between casual bar seating with and izakaya-esque dining, Ryla makes for an ideal stop for lunch or dinner. From Chefs Ray Hayashi and Cynthia Hetlinger enjoy dishes like fluke sashimi and uni-topped agedashi tofu. In addition, there are also options like Peads and Barnett tonkatsu and glazed New York strip steak.

Pizzana

Location: Sherman Oaks

No Stranger to Los Angeles, Brentwoods famed Pizzana has set up shop in Sherman Oaks. The Michelin Bib Gourmand award recipient restaurant dishes out some of the best pizzas in town, making it a must-try. Likewise, enjoy Naples-inspired pizza pies like the neo-Margherita with San Marzano tomatoes and Fior di latte imported from Italy.

The Original Hawowshi

Location: Various locations throughout SFV

While this is not necessarily a restaurant, it is a pop-up worth popping in for. The Original Hawowshi serves up traditional Egyptian street food in varying locations throughout the valley. Likewise, you can also secure your own meal from the popular pop-up at its private residence location, but reservations are required.

Tel Aviv Fish Grill

Location: Tarzana

Another oldie but goodie, Tel Aviv Fish Grill, lands on the new summer restaurants list because of its recent expansion. For Israeli cuisine, none quite compares to Tel Aviv Fish Grill with staples like shakshuka and Israeli salad. In addition, we also recommend treating yourself to the branzino, served with pickled lemon and a buttery sauce with a spicy kick. 

 

CONEJO VALLEY SUMMER SPOTS

E+ Mon

Location: Westlake Village

While E+ Mon may not be new to the neighborhood, it’s certainly a local favorite worth mentioning. At E+ Mon, you’ll find high-quality sushi options like the premium nigiri sampler that makes for a satisfying meal. The sample includes seared toro topped with caviar along with the day’s freshest cuts like nodoguro and kinmedai. In addition, there are tempura and appetizers like aged miso eggplant and takoyaki round out the menu.

Tifa Chocolate & Gelato

Location: Agoura Hills

For a sweet treat in Agoura Hills, Tifa Chocolate & Gelato is a true delight. This franchise started in the Agoura Hills neighborhood and remains a staple. Tabu Shabu

I Madonnari Italian Street Painting Festival

What: Madonnari, or street painters, transform the Santa Barbara Mission plaza each year over Memorial Day weekend using pastels on pavement to create 130 vibrant and colorful, large-scale images. The event is produced by the Children’s Creative Project. The I Madonnari Italian Street Painting Festival will be back in person over Memorial Day Weekend 2023, May 27-29. at the Old Mission Santa Barbara, 2100 Laguna Street. Festival hours are 10am to 6pm.

46th Annual Ojai Art in the Park

Where: Libbey Park

What: The Ojai Art Center hosts its 46th annual Art in the Park celebration on Memorial Day weekend. Art in the Park is an annual tradition started in 1977 by local artists at the Ojai Art Center.
