Lunar New Year Festival

Where: Monterey Park
What: Celebrate the Lunar New Year at the Monterey Park Festival in Los Angeles, a two-day event located in the city’s vibrant Chinese district. Spanning five blocks in Downtown Monterey Park, the festival features traditional folk art, delicious food, and a fun-filled carnival area. The festivities usually start on Saturday morning with a lively display of firecrackers, along with dragon and lion dances. With past events attracting over 100,000 attendees, it’s wise to plan your visit in advance. The city recommends using the complimentary parking shuttle services available at Mark Keppel High School (501 E Hellman Ave) and El Repetto Elementary School (650 Grandridge Ave).
Uncorked Wine Festival
When: January 27
Where: DTLA
What: With over 150 wines and wineries, food trucks, music, and a picturesque setting, Uncorked Wine Fest at Union Station promises an ideal Saturday. This event is set to delight wine enthusiasts with a stunning array of varietals. General admission attendees can enjoy tastings from 6 to 9pm, while VIP ticket holders get an additional hour beginning at 5pm. The tickets cover all wine tastings, with food available for purchase separately.
Luna Luna: Forgotten Fantasy

What: In the summer of 1987, Germany hosted a unique carnival where traditional rides were embellished with art from Salvador Dalí, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, David Hockney, Sonia Delaunay, and many others. After that summer, this distinctive carnival disappeared, tucked away in storage for years. Recently, however, Luna Luna has been resurrected in Los Angeles. Thanks to the efforts of several art world collaborators and Drake, the carnival has been meticulously restored and reassembled. It is now open for visitors in a Boyle Heights soundstage until the spring of 2024.

Lunar New Year Celebration at Disney California Adventure

What: Celebrate the Lunar New Year at “the happiest place on earth” – Disney California Adventure. Embracing the Year of the Dragon, the park is hosting a month-long multicultural festival. Children will enjoy photo opportunities and parade processions featuring Mulan, Mushu, Mickey, and Minnie Mouse. Meanwhile, adults can indulge in a delightful culinary experience with flavors from China, Korea, and Vietnam.
The Dr. Seuss Experience

What: Immerse yourself in the whimsical universe of Wockets and Truffula Trees at The Dr. Seuss Experience, an interactive adventure inspired by the beloved books of Dr. Seuss. This enchanting experience brings to life the vivid characters and landscapes from classics like The Cat in the Hat and The Lorax. Guests can explore a series of rooms, each offering unique interactions with characters and perfect photo opportunities. At the heart of this pop-up lies a mirror maze, inspired by The Sneetches, providing a captivating challenge. Catch this touring show at Santa Monica Place starting in November 2023 for a magical journey through the world of Dr. Seuss.
Stand Up for Pups

What: Bring your dog along to the Annenberg PetSpace for a pet-friendly comedy night, featuring performances by Faysal Lawrence, Kaela Crawford, Vargus Mason, Ashoka Thomas, and Nthenya. Hosted by Caitlin Benson and backed by DJ VFRESH, this event promises an entertaining evening. Your ticket includes two drinks and part of the proceeds will go towards the PetSpace Extraordinary Care Fund.

Shaping Gravity: Abstract Art Beyond the Picture Plane

Birding in the Garden: An Experiential Walk and Talk

What: This special class offers a walk through the TPF gardens, where participants can identify local birds and understand the vital relationships they maintain with native plants and other species. Conejo Valley Weekend Events | January 26 through January 28
Welcome Walk at Malibu Creek State Park
When: January 27, 10am – 1pm
Where: Malibu Creek State Park
What: Participate in a leisurely 2 1/2 hour nature walk led by a Malibu Creek docent, exploring the creek and the shade of the oaks. During the walk, the docent will share insights about the local wildlife and plant life in the mountains, as well as the park’s distinct history, including its past in film production. This activity is family-friendly and open to all.
Seaside Marathon, Half Marathon, 5K and 10K in Ventura

What: The 11th Annual Seaside Marathon, Half Marathon, 5K, and 10K is planned for Sunday, January 28, 2024. The race will start at Emma Wood State Beach Group Campground and head north onto the bike path. Start time: 7am full marathon, 7:15am half marathon, 7:30am 5K/10K.
