Los Angeles Weekend Events | February 9 – February 11 

LoveStruck Cinema

When: February 10 – February 14 

Where: DTLA

What: Street Food Cinema presents a special screening and performance series that highlights the theme of love, hosted at the Million Dollar Theater around Valentine’s Day. This event features two movie screenings accompanied by themed performances, including a showing of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” with a shadow cast performance by Sins O’ the Flesh, as well as “Romeo + Juliet” paired with a performance by Cabaret Versatile.

John Williams Spotlight

When: February 2 through May 19, 2024

Where: DTLA

What: In the ongoing multi-year tribute to John Williams by the LA Phil, attendees can experience “A Century of Film” from February 2 to 4. This event, conducted by David Newman, will feature a selection of pieces from several of Williams’ scores, including Indiana Jones and Close Encounters, alongside music from Batman, The Godfather, Back to the Future, Lawrence of Arabia, and other iconic films.

Mardi Gras at Farmers Market

When: February 9 – February 13 

Where: Boyle Heights

What: Celebrate Mardi Gras weekend at the Farmers Market with a unique twist by joining in the annual festivities, including the Mutti Gras Pet Parade & Costume Contest on Saturday at the Market Plaza. Watch as pets in costumes compete, with the crowd picking a King and Queen in different size categories, and winners receiving prizes from the Dog Bakery. The celebration begins on Friday on the West Patio with live music that continues over the weekend and returns on Fat Tuesday. Enjoy traditional New Orleans cuisine like seafood, gumbo, jambalaya, Cajun meatloaf, blackened chicken, beignets, and po’boys throughout the event.

Puppy Bowl Tailgate Party

When: February 10 

Where: West LA

What: Forget the Super Bowl; Los Angeles has its own “pup rally” in celebration of the Puppy Bowl! This light-hearted, dog-friendly gathering at the Wags & Walks Adoption Center in West L.A. promises an irresistibly cute experience. It features football-themed photo opportunities, tasty treats for both humans and dogs, agility challenges, and the chance for adoptions. For those feeling peckish, several food trucks will be on-site, along with Grounds & Hounds Coffee Co., offering both coffee for attendees and special pup cups for the furry guests.

Lunar New Year Celebration at Disney California Adventure

When: Until February 18

Where: Anaheim

What: Celebrate the Lunar New Year at “the happiest place on earth” – Disney California Adventure. Embracing the Year of the Dragon, the park is hosting a month-long multicultural festival. Children will enjoy photo opportunities and parade processions featuring Mulan, Mushu, and Mickey and Minnie Mouse. Meanwhile, adults can indulge in a delightful culinary experience with flavors from China, Korea, and Vietnam.

Lunar New Year Celebration at South Coast Botanic Garden

When: February 3 – February 25

Where: Rolling Hills / RanchoPalos Verdes

What: Every weekend in February, South Coast Botanic Garden hosts vibrant Lunar New Year celebrations featuring lion dancers, drummers, and folk dancers. Performances dedicated to the Year of the Dragon take place on Saturdays and Sundays at 11am and 3pm. These half-hour shows are part of a full day of activities in the garden’s lower meadow, running from 10am to 4pm. The festivities include red lantern decorations and the option to participate in additional classes, such as puppetry and tea ceremonies, available for purchase.

San Fernando Valley Weekend Events | February 9 – February 11 

Valentine’s Day Handbuilding Pottery Workshop

The Beauty Lab Galentine’s Paint Night

Where: 16781 Stagg Street Hangar C3 & C4 | Van Nuys

What: Grab your homies and come paint and sip with us at The Beauty Lab! Enjoy this Paint and sip instructed by artist, Jessica Hernandez. This session will be on a partially pre-sketched canvas, so no painting experience is necessary! Jessica will be there to take you step by step to create your own masterpiece. Each ticket gets you a 12×16 canvas and all the art materials you’ll need to go home with a beautiful painting.

Boney Mountain Trail Half Marathon & 7K in Newbury Park

Where: Newbury Park

What: The Boney Mountain Trail Half Marathon and 7K is planned for Saturday, February 10, 2024, in Point Mugu State Park, starting at Rancho Sierra Vista/Satwiwa in Newbury Park. Challenging, single track, switchback climbs and descents, creek crossings and climb up the Old Boney trail.

Valentine’s Day Event at the Stagecoach Inn Museum

Chinese New Year Celebration

Where: Fred Kavli Theater

What: The Chinese Dragon Year Celebration will take place at the Bank of America Performing Arts Center. This annual event, organized by the Conejo Chinese Cultural Association (CCCA) for over 30 years, promises an evening filled with a diverse array of programs. This includes dramas, music, special arts, dance performances, and magic show, all inspired by the rich heritage of Chinese culture spanning thousands of years.
