Jack Kirby: Heroes and Humanity

Where: Skirball Cultural Center | Westside

What: The Skirball’s newest exhibition explores the extraordinary legacy of comic book pioneer Jack Kirby, whose imagination helped shape the Marvel universe with characters like Captain America, Black Panther, and the X-Men. Beyond his superhero fame, the show spotlights Kirby’s roots as a first-generation Jewish American, a WWII veteran, and a bi-coastal family man. Astra Lumina

What: Wander through a glowing galaxy of lights during the South Coast Botanic Garden’s celestial-inspired nighttime experience. This hour-long Palos Verdes trail skips the usual holiday trimmings in favor of nine dazzling installations that feel more otherworldly than wintery. Think less North Pole, more outer space—making it one of L.A.’s most hypnotic after-dark garden shows of the season. 

Ice at Santa Monica

What: Just steps from the ocean, Ice in Downtown Santa Monica transforms the coastal city into a winter wonderland. The 8,000-square-foot outdoor rink—open daily from November through mid-January—sits at Fifth Street and Arizona Avenue, less than a 10-minute walk from the E Line. Admission ($24) includes skate rentals for an hour-long session, with private fire pits and party packages available for those looking to elevate the experience. Standup Comedy for the Valley Food Bank

Annual Holiday Tree Lighting

What: Ring in the season at the Promenade at Westlake’s 30th Annual Tree Lighting celebration on Friday, November 21, from 4–8pm.
