Tech News: Uber Helicopter Service

Uber, the ride-hail company, launched a premium helicopter service in New York City. This service consists of 8-minute flights to John F. Kennedy Airport and Newark Airport from Downtown Manhattan. Uber intends to expand the service to more US cities. They will eventually offer this option to daily commuters who travel between different parts of the city.

This prestigious service is a reference to the premise Uber launched with a decade ago: offer a sleek and convenient transportation option to customers with too much disposable income so they can feel like “ballers” while traveling. This time, the question is whether Uber can convince the Wall Street crowd, near the helipad, to upgrade from a car to a chopper.

The cost is approximately $205 for a one-way Uber Helicopter flight from Manhattan to the JFK airport. It takes approximately 50 minutes to complete. That includes the fact that you need to take an Uber Black Car to get to the helicopter pad which could take from 10-20 minutes based on where you are being picked up in the city.

Considering above factors, it can take about the same amount of time to order an UberX and travel to the airport. 90% of the time, that will be more cost effective than the Uber Helicopter. As Uber expands its fleet of cars to scooters, bikes and now helicopters, it wants to give users more options for getting from one place to another. It envisions replacing helicopter trips with autonomous electric flying cars to make transportation faster and (in theory) safer. Under the Uber Air division, it’s working on a class of flying electric vehicles that can take off and land vertically. The company is expected to launch its first set of electric aircraft in Dallas, Los Angeles and Melbourne, Australia, in 2023.

Uber helicopters probably won’t help to reduce the traffic in big cities like LA or New York. However, they do add an interesting way of travel for people who are looking for a more sophisticated experience. The real highlight of the Uber Helicopter trip is the view of New York from above the city. There’s nothing more astounding than amazing view of your city!

Agent Story: Jimmy Heckenberg Makes LA Times “Biggest Home Sales in 2019” List!

One of our top producing agents, Jimmy Heckenberg, of the Beverly Hills office was featured in the Los Angeles Times. More specifically, the Los Angeles Times “Biggest Home Sales of 2019” list. Jimmy Heckenberg represented the buyer in this recent Beverly Hills property sale.

This multistory home sits behind gates on about an acre of land in Beverly Hills. It has approximately 20,800 square feet under roof, including seven bedrooms, twelve bathrooms, and eleven fireplaces. Yes, eleven fireplaces. The master suite alone measures about 3,200 square feet and includes three of the eleven fireplaces.

Other amenities on the property include a game room, home theater (with reclining seats), a dining room with a see-through wine wall on the other side, a saltwater swimming pool, a cabana, a computerized waterfall with a light show, and parking for about 20 cars. Talk about an entertainer’s dream space.

The beautiful property was owned by the founder of Eyemart Express with an original asking price of $55 million. The home officially sold at $34.65 Million.

USE A CALENDAR

Create calendar reminders to stay organized important events, appointments, anniversaries and birthdays ahead of time to prepare. You can even use a datebook to avoid overbooking yourself!

DE-CLUTTER

Everything has a home, including you! Find a place to designate items to maintain cleanliness in your space. Anything without a place to be can be donated to your community.  

COLOR-COORDINATE

When choosing baskets, bins, and buckets for organizing, choose similar colors to the style of each room for a clean, consistent look throughout. use this tip to organe your closet for further color coordination.

UPDATE FILING SYSTEM 

Start small! organize files with broader file names, store old files, and have copies of important documents prepared.

STAY ON TIME

Allow extra time for appointments and events requiring travel. You can also set your clocks at home a few minutes faster to stay ahead all year long!

USE CHECKLISTS

Life gets busy! organize checklists by type. errand checklist in the car, a morning checklist, what to get at the grocery store, etc. Keep them on your phone or computer to avoid losing your sticky note!

MONITOR SPENDING 

Create a budget and stick with it. Stay on top of organizing your bills with calendar reminders, and mark them as they are paid. Don’t forget about automatic withdrawals!

Eating sustainably grown food is more than just a fad in California. Some of the best restaurants in the state are dedicated to the idea that the highest-quality ingredients are sourced locally. At Malibu Farm, the beautiful location at the Malibu Pier, you’ll find everything and everything is homegrown. The owner, Helene, used to grow everything in her own personal garden and back yard farm. Now, of course, with the popularity of her restaurant, that isn’t entirely possible, though the eggs, persimmons, figs, lemons, pomegranates, apricots, asian pears, carrots, beets, asparagus, and fresh herbs still come from her home. She buys local strawberries, oranges, kale, chard, basil and tomatoes from local purveyor Larry Thorne; organic lemons, we get lemons and oranges year round from Mike Zacha; all potatoes and carrots from Weiser farms; Tutti Fruitt; and Maggie’s farm. The chefs shop every week at the Santa Monica farmers market. All breads are local from La Brea bakery and Rockenwagner; coffee comes from nearby Caffe Luxxe; tea from Charles and Company; Jidori chicken is purchased locally; cheese is Pomona-made from De Stefano. Just, wow.

Roughly 90% of the fare served is from local farmer’s markets at Gjelina, Travis Lett’s always-packed hot spot on Abbot Kinney in Venice. Get there early, and plan what you want to eat. The bread is out of this world. Hot tip: the veggie pizza is to die for. Go go go!
