Out & About: The Best Corn Mazes Around Town

It’s that time of year again. The leaves are falling, the air is crisp, and there’s a chill in the air. That can only mean one thing: it’s a corn maze and Halloween season. So, if you’re looking for a good scare this October, consider visiting one or all these corn mazes in L.A. to enjoy a family-friendly autumn delight.

So before you start planning your annual pilgrimage to find the best corn mazes in Los Angeles and its environs. Here is a list of three corn mazes that will tickle your fancy. Some are designed to create particular messages, while others have hidden surprises inside, so there’s something for everyone to enjoy. So which one should you choose?

Underwood Family Farms

If you’re looking for fall fun, consider going on a corn maze adventure. You can find one of the best in Southern California at Underwood Family Farms, where there is an event every weekend from now until October 31.

They have everything from Wild West Weekend to Antique Tractor Weekend. Importantly, their two-acre corn maze is open through Halloween. Please don’t worry about getting lost as there are plenty of checkpoints, so you always know how close you are to finding your way out again.

Tapia Brothers Farm

Tapia Brothers Farm is another great location that offers an incredible corn maze. A tour of the labyrinth comes with a map. So, if you get lost, you can always use the map to get your bearings. Additionally, you will be given trivia questions to spice up the experience. Another notable feature is the farm’s many pumpkins. For the little ones, they can enjoy pony rides and tractor-pulled trained rides. When you are famished and being on a farm, you will be treated to roasted corn that is fresh from the farm.

Forneris Farms

If you are looking for a good time this fall, then a 4-acre corn maze is the place to be. Forneris Farms has been a delight for a century now. In recognition of the trying moments that the world and the country have faced, this year’s annual theme is “God bless the USA.”

A visit to their corn maze is an enthralling experience, and to spice things up, there is a prize to be won if you find all 12 riddles; what a “CORNundrum.” Their fall festival is open daily through October 31. As a caution, they have an only cash policy, so ensure you carry enough money for all the activities.

Big Horse Corn Maze

This is heaven for corn maze fans, as Big Horse Corn Maze has over 11-acres of corn. This expansive corn maze has been exquisitely designed for visitors. You can visit the location from Tuesday to Sunday. The corn maze and harvest festival have been canceled for this year, so mark your calendars for 2022! However, you can still have fun exploring the vast property. If you visit the premises on the weekend, you will enjoy the day’s theme, ranging from celebrating veterans to celebrating music genres.

Takeaway

This Halloween season, if you’re looking for a scary maze to walk through with your kids on the way to trick-or-treating, there are plenty of options in Los Angeles and its environs. Halloween is a time for kids to dress up in costume and go door-to-door collecting candy. But it’s also a time when grownups get to enjoy the holiday, too.

Economic update for the week ending October 16, 2021

Stock markets rise again this week  – Stock markets, after dropping about 5% in September, have rebounded in October. Economic data points to the economy continuing its expansion. Retail sales, which seemed to stall in July August, were up over 14% year-over-year in September. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed the week at 35,294.76, up 1.6% from 34,746.25 last week. It is up 15.4% year-to-date.  The S&P 500 closed the week at 4,471.37, up 1.8% from 4,391.34 last week. It is up 18.9% year-to-date. The NASDAQ closed the week at 14,897.34, up 2.2% from 14,579.54 last week. It is up 15.5% year-to-date.

Mortgage rates – The October 14, 2021, Freddie Mac Primary Mortgage Survey reported mortgage rates for the most popular loan products as follows: The 30-year fixed mortgage rate was 3.05%, up from 2,99% last week. The 15-year fixed was 2.30%, up from 2.23% last week. The 5-year ARM was 2.55% up slightly from 2.52% last week.

2022 housing forecast – The California Association of Realtors released its 2022 housing market forecast this week. They expect the number of homes sold in 2022 to be decline by about 5.2% to 416,800 units. They have projected 439,800 sales in 2021. 2022’s projection of 419,800 sales, while less than 2021, would be the second highest number of sales in the last five years. They expect the median price to rise 5.2% to $834,400 in 2022. While still a healthy increase it’s a ways off from the projected historic 20.3% increase in the median price in 2021. They forecast interest rates on 30-year fixed mortgages to be at or above 3.5%. While about 1/2% higher than rates are today, that’s a very low interest rate and still near historic lows.

Home Tips: Stylish Halloween Home Decor Ideas

Great stylish Halloween home decor can help spruce up the home but also make it a fun place for the whole family to enjoy. Decor helps to adorn different parts of the home to keep guests entertained and lift the entire overlook of living space.

Traditional pumpkin and jack-o’lantern decors may still be the cultural norm for Halloween but more stylish and creative ideas are more necessary each step of the way to bring a novel look to the home each Halloween season. There are multiple ways to approach the event without having to keep to the traditional spooky theme such as the use of florals to represent spring or the renewal of the season. Here are some great Halloween decor ideas that are easy to implement.

Floating Witch hat Luminaries

Lighting is one of the simplest ways to transform a dull place into a magnificent creation. No matter how cramped the space in a room is, it is possible and necessary to have luminaries or light sources for Halloween. Rather than having a traditional lampshade, it is a great idea to use Floating hat luminaries to increase the spooky Halloween feeling without necessarily scaring the kids at home. Many lamp-shaped hats can be bought from the store or even have a DIY transformation. You can hang the lampshades on the porch, in the living room, and in the hallways. Try to ensure the selected hat colors match the rest of the room decor whenever possible.

Colorful Spooky Porch Decor

Most neighbors and friends may not get into all the rooms to appreciate the work and Halloween home decor ideas in each room; they will surely see the porch. Colorful rugs at the entrance with colorful pumpkins and pillows are a great idea. Juxtapose the floor designs with some great flowers or gnarled plants on the side to create a more natural scenery.

Halloween Themed Crockery

Useful resource

Switch up your cutlery and dishware for something spooky. Incorporate your own DIY Halloween-themed tumblers, mugs, cups, and plates with a customized feel. A webbing pattern with a few spiders and the addition of a glowing dye is going to fascinate guests and family for many years to come.

Wine Bottle Candlesticks

Sprucing up the Halloween home decor depends on how much of the decor is affected and is visible to everyone. Simply paint Halloween bottles in matte black spray paint and insert an orange taper candle once dry. The design will surely bring an eerie feeling irrespective of the place you place the candles in the room.

Horror Novel Door

Think of the chill that ran down your spine reading horror novels. Why not relive the moments by transforming your door into a faux library. We recommend using gold paint for the book titles on craft paper. Add some plant at the door entrance and you’ve created the illusion of library books. Halloween home decor ideas like this can stay long after Halloween.
