Hollyhock House Lawn Party

When: August 20 

Where: Los Feliz

What: The Hollyhock House reopens this weekend after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic. In celebration of its reopening, the famed Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home will throw a free lawn party. The event will include free performances from the Bob Baker Marionette Theater, music, crafts, and 100 free hot dogs on a first-come, first-served basis.

CicLAvia: Meet the Hollywoods

When: August 21 – December 4 

Where: Hollywood

What: Put the pedal to the metal of your bike for CicLAvia! The pedestrian and boke-friendly event will make its way through East, West, and central Hollywood starting this Sunday. The 6.6-mile car-free route invites locals to take a ride through town at their own leisure.

Griffith Park Summer Celebration

When: August 19 

Where: Griffith Park

What: Enjoy a communal hike, old-timey trains, music, and more at Griffith Park this Friday. In addition, the free event will also include extended hours, equestrian rides, and delicious food.

DOGust Birthday Celebration

When: August 20 

Where: Playa Vista

What: It’s time to celebrate your adopted pup’s birthday at DOGust. The universal birthday for shelter dogs is this Saturday at the Wallis Annenberg PetSpace. Likewise, the special occasion will include dog-friendly activities, like a splash pad and photo ops. Vendors include Grounds & Hounds Coffee Co., Kono’s Kitchen, Shop Sunny Tails, and more!

Tender Fest: Part II

When: August 20

Where: Beverly Hills

What: The second iteration of h.wood group and Off the Menu’s Tenderfest returns. Enjoy this daylong food festival that brings together chefs from the best friend chicken restaurants in town. Each ticket allows unlimited samples of every chef’s chicken tender entry, along with unlimited fries, dessert, and two drink tickets.

Outdoor Movie Night

Where: Jamaica Bay Inn

What: Head over to Marina del Rey for a free movie night under the stars. Jamaica Bay Inn continues its summer movie series with this weekend’s outdoor screening of Freaky Friday.

41st Annual Wings Over Camarillo Airshow

When: August 20 and August 21 

Where: Camarillo Airport

What: The Camarillo Wings Association hosts the 2022 Wings Over Camarillo Air Show this Saturday and Sunday. The airshow includes aerobatic performances from classic warbirds, classic/exotic cars and motorcycles, a VIP Chalet tent, and more. Likewise, there will be a variety of food and street vendors. This year’s theme of the 2022 event is “Women in Aviation.”

Wild and Scenic Film Festival in Ventura

Where: 575 Vista Del Mar Dr | Ventura

What: The 13th Annual Wild & Scenic Film Festival returns this Saturday. This signature event raises funds each year to support Ventura Land Trust. The Film Festival is available to enjoy in person or virtually.

CINEMALIBU Presents Sing 2

Where: Malibu Bluffs Park | Malibu,

What: Enjoy a family movie under the stars at this Saturday’s Cinemalibu screening of Sing 2. The event will include food trucks, special guests, raffles, an activity, and more. Unique LA Market

What: Considered one of the best made-in-America shopping events in the country, the Unique LA Market is a must. Find one-of-a-kind clothes, accessories, and art pieces along with many handmade picks.

Gimme Pink Roller Rink

When: August 12 – August 14 

Where: Downtown Santa Monica

What: Hit the rink at Santa Monica Pier. Enjoy disco hits oceanside at this pop-up roller disco presented by Benefit Cosmetics. Likewise, the event will also feature a brow bar with the entire event free to the public. In addition, attendees that show proof of the Klarna app on their phone will receive one free drink from the cocktail bar.

OC Fair

Where: Costa Mesa

What: Carnival attractions, fried food, and fun are what you will find at the OC Fair. Bringing family fun to the area since 1889, this will be the last weekend of the fair.

Rooftop Cinema Club

What: It’s time for the 145th annual Ventura County Fair, “A County Fair with Ocean Air.” This year’s fair takes place at the Ventura County Fairgrounds for two weeks of fun! Sea Glass and Ocean Arts Festival

Where: Santa Barbara Maritime Museum

What: Don’t miss this weekend’s Sea Glass and Ocean Arts Festival in Santa Barbara. The Summer Sea Glass Pop-up will feature handmade, ocean-themed art and authentic sea glass jewelry. In addition, each year, the event designates a nonprofit that will receive a portion of the proceeds. 

Music Under the Stars at the Olivas Adobe Ventura

Dog Adoption Event at Dodger Stadium

Where: Dodger Stadium | Los Angeles

What: If you are looking for a furry friend, then this weekend’s Dog Adoption event at Dodger Stadium is your destination.  L.A. Animal Services will have more than 100 adorable dogs available at its center field plaza this Saturday. Fees to adopt are $51 for dogs and $75 for puppies (excluding licensing fees), and only cash or check will be accepted.

Red Hot Chili Peppers

US Open of Surfing

What: The US Open of Surfing rides the waves into Huntington Beach this weekend for a week-long competition. Bringing together the world’s elite surfers, thousands of competitors will face off for the big prize. The event will also feature live bands, a sports expo, and after-parties.

Tiny Porch Concerts at Peter Strauss Ranch

What: In cooperation with the National Park Service, Tiny Porch Concerts presents its 2022 Summer Series at Peter Strauss Ranch, on a newly rebuilt stage. While admission is free, donations are encouraged to support the work of the Santa Monica Mountains Fund.

Street Food Cinema

You can never go wrong with SFC! This local favorite of outdoor movies screening events combines food trucks, music, and of course movies for a truly epic night. The screenings take place at different locations around town like Griffith Park. Likewise, this gives you the chance to explore other local neighborhoods in the process.

Parks After Dark

Presented by LA County, Parks After Dark brings cinema to over 34 local parks! From Kong vs. Godzilla to Onward and more, the screenings are of course family-friendly. In addition, Parks After Dark also includes arts and crafts activities and health resources. 

Rooftop Cinema Club

Who doesn’t love a film with a view? This is of course what you can expect at Rooftop Cinema Club. This outdoor movies screening series brings Hollywood cinema to Downtown LA and El Segundo. The genres vary but the ambiance is always guaranteed to be a good time.

Cinespia

What summer outdoor movies list would be complete without Cinespia? Located in the Hollywood Forever Cemetary event space, this film series is its own icon around town. Not all Cinespia screenings take place in the famed resting place of Hollywood legends but there are plenty of films to choose from for your Cinespia adventure.

Pleasant Valley Movies in the Park

For a delightful family-friendly evening, Pleasant Valley Movies in the Park brings cinema to Camarillo. On select Fridays from June through August you can watch free movies in the park, enjoy live music, and play family games. 

Electric Dusk Drive-In

We love a good old-fashioned drive-in! Head over to Glendale for Electric Dusk Drive-In and enjoy features like Ferris Buellers Day Off and more.
