Kitchen Design Trends for 2022 | Home Tips

Many people spend a significant amount of time in the kitchen; indeed, the kitchen is at the heart of some homes. Not just a place for preparing and cooking meals, the kitchen may also be used for dining and socializing. Is it time to give your kitchen an overhaul? Whether you’re thinking about a major remodel or a few smaller changes, we have you covered. From functionality to aesthetics and more, read on for this week’s blog on kitchen design trends for 2022!

Decorative Accessories

Moving away from a simple utilitarian look, many homeowners are adding decorative accents and accessories to kitchens. This can create a more casual and comfortable ambiance, helping to extend available living space. Table lamps, for example, provide for greater flexibility with lighting and add a homey appearance. Artwork, mirrors, and shelves with collectible trinkets are other ways people are making their kitchen designs more inviting for 2022.

Larger Islands

With the kitchen increasingly being used for purposes other than cooking, it’s no surprise that lots of people are opting for larger islands. From food preparation and eating to chilling out and working, an island has plenty of practical uses. An island can also replace the need for a separate dining table, potentially freeing up more space or, in some homes, an entire room. Built-in storage solutions underneath islands are also gaining popularity.

Natural Color Schemes

When it comes to the color of a kitchen design, natural tones are soaring in popularity for 2022. Pleasing on the eye, soothing, and reflecting a moving shift towards sustainable goals, many people are redesigning kitchens in shades of green and blue as well as earthy tones. Natural woods and raw materials complement colors that reflect Mother Nature.

Patterned Floor Tiling

While vinyl and wooden flooring still remain popular in 2022, patterned floor tiles are also expected to become more common. The floor is a great way to add character and life to your kitchen design, with fun and funky tiling that lets you express yourself through diverse colors and striking patterns. You can also expect tiles to feature in other parts of the kitchen, from backsplashes and walls to more unexpected locations, such as around windows.

Tailored Appliances

Why stick with run-of-the-mill appliances and a one-size-fits-all approach when it’s so easy nowadays to customize kitchen appliances to have exactly what you want? Tailored appliances are the way to go. Consider something to match each cooking style and every aesthetic. Think things like split appliances over stacking, multiple sinks and cooking stations, large drink chillers, built-in coffee bars, seamless integration, and a range of colors and materials.

Customized Cabinets

Enhance your kitchen and add more organization when you include customized cabinets and drawers. Create a home for everything and say goodbye to cluttered cupboards and worktops when your kitchen design includes elements like pull-out trash cans, appliances behind sliding doors, specialty drawers for cookie trays, integrated spice racks, roll-out shelving, deep drawers, and divided drawers. Customized cabinetry allows homeowners to fully maximize space too.

Smart Technology

As with other areas of the home, smart technology is a big part of kitchen designs in 2022. People typically like features that make life easier … and wouldn’t it be convenient, for example, to adjust the temperature of your oven by just using your phone? How about voice-controlled taps? Or automatic pot stirrers, apps that let you check the contents of your fridge while grocery shopping, coffee pots controlled by your phone, and scales that link to recipes? There are so many exciting possibilities.

Another social media-based platform has joined the audio-chat craze. Reddit has debuted its take on the popular Clubhouse app with Reddit Talk. The audio-only chatrooms support recordings and create a space for users to chat about any preferred subject. Microsoft in Talks to Open Xbox Store

In a change from their current business model, Microsoft may soon be opening Xbox stores. At this present time, the company receives a 30 percent cut on digital game purchases through its current Xbox Store. The Xbox maker has not hinted at the possibility that the company needs to make its Xbox store more open. This week, the company unveiled a series of app store principles that they will be pushing forward with regard to the Xbox store. Microsoft president Brad Smith seeks to “ensure we’re providing the best possible experience for creators and customers of all sizes.” In addition, the company will work to treat its Xbox apps or games equally and provide transparency about the promotion or marketing of apps and games. Discovery and Warner Media Receive Approval on Merger

Another big merger is coming. This week, Discovery and WarnerMedia received approval to move forward with their planned merger. The merged company’s upon being finalized will become one of the biggest media conglomerates in the US. The move would blend Warner Bros’ TV and its movie assets with Discovery’s already vast catalog of content. The news comes after AT&T’s announcement last May that it would spin off WarnerMedia to merge it with Discovery. The deal will call for AT&T to receive $43 billion in a combination of cash, debt securities, and debt retention in an all-stock transaction. AT&T bought WarnerMedia in 2016 for $85.4 billion. Upon completion of the merger, the companies will be called Warner Bros. Discovery.

Chrome to Change Logo for First Time in Eight Years

New year, new look in the case of Chrome. A designer for Google Chrome recently unveiled a slightly different new look for the web browser’s icon. The change is only slightly different from the company’s current logo with a flat take on its signature colors. The logo will also vary based on what system a user uses. On ChromeOS enabled devices the logo will appear more colorful whereas on macOS the logo will have a slight shadow for a pop effect. The Windows version of the icon will showcase a more dramatic gradient to fit with other Windows icons. The change will not roll out for another few months, although users of the developer version of Chrome (Chrome Canary) can see the change now.

Amazon in Talks as Possible Peloton Buyer

With Peloton’s recent downhill trend in demand from its pandemic peak, a possible new buyer is on the horizon. A recent report by the Wall Street Journal has Amazon at the top of the list of potential buyers. With even the slightest suggestion of an acquisition, the stocks for Peloton spiked upward by 20-30% in after-hours trading. According to the report, Amazon has been working with advisors to consider the next month in possibly purchasing the fitness company. Of course, the move would help to put Amazon in an equal playing field with fitness go-to’s like Apple Fitness +. One issue that may place a hold on the possible sale is CEO John Foley’s 80 percent control over Peloton’s voting shares. Likewise, an idea of the company’s future will likely be stated when Peloton’s earning report drops next week.
