World’s Fastest Train Debuts

From Driverless Lyfts to Dislikes on Twitter: This Week's Tech News

While the U.S. still has some work to do on catching up to the rest of the world’s rail services, this latest train news serves as a landmark. This week the world’s fastest train debuted, clocking in at speeds up to 373 miles per hour, a report says. The magnetic levitation (maglev) debuted in China and will not be as loud or require as much maintenance as other trains. With speeds up to 600 kilometers per hour (373 miles,) the train will be capable of cutting a 5 ½ hour trip down to just 3 hours. The high-speed maglev lets the train float while traveling, without touching the rail. China spent close to two decades developing the technology and research needed to launch its latest transportation venture.

Twitter Testing a Way to Dislike Replies

From Driverless Lyfts to Dislikes on Twitter: This Week's Tech News

If you have always wanted to dislike a particular tweet, a new tool will be making its way to you soon. This week, Twitter announced that they are testing a way to up-or down-vote replies. The effort comes as a way to better understand what users find as relevant content. The company shared the news in a Tweet to their Twitter support page, notifying users that some iPhone users may see the option show up on their app. Currently, the feature has not been opened up to all Twitter users, with only a small undisclosed number being able to test the feature. “This gives people the power to privately voice their opinion on the quality of replies without publicly shaming others while also giving us more nuanced feedback,” Cody Elam, a user researcher at Twitter, said in a thread of tweets.

Microsoft-Powered Autonomous Robot is Here to Clean our Beaches

In eventual good news for California coastlines, robots may be helping to keep our beaches clean soon. A Dutch startup’s BeachBot robot has launched an initiative to rid our sands of cigarette butts. The start-up now has Microsoft’s artificial intelligence on hand to help the robot learn how. While the robot will only be learning how to pick up cigarette butts, the company hopes to clean up other waste soon. The startup was highlighted by Microsoft this week, with the company showing off the prototype machine. The robot uses the software giant’s Trove AI system as part of its learning process.

Lyft to Get Self-Driving Cars from Ford and Argo AI

Lyft will be joining the autonomous vehicle race this year in a new venture with Ford and Argo AI. The ride-hailing service will debut its “driverless cars” in Miami. The announcement was made this week after the company had to delay its efforts due to the pandemic. The company has high hopes to commercialize its autonomous ride-hailing service. Lyft will join the likes of Uber and Waymo as they work to provide a 21st-century option for ridesharing. Ford and Argo AI are working to create defined zones for autonomous pick-ups in Miami using the Ford Escape. A human safety driver will be onboard for pickups but the vehicle itself will drive riders to their end destinations.

How to Add a Pop of Color to Your Bathroom | Home Tips

A bathroom is one of the most critical parts of your home experiences. If you seek to transform your bathroom from drab to luxury, you should be ready to make it happen. Here are some DIY home improvement tips that will help you add a pop of color to your bathroom:

Add a Pop of Color Through Paint

Color is a critical aspect of a room as it affects most of the décor. Using neutral color allows flexibility. White, for instance, makes a perfect color for a luxurious bathroom. Consider having white cabinets and countertops. You can also throw in splurge high-quality rags and towels. Pairing your white linens with accessories will help tie in everything.

Gray also makes a superb color choice for your bathroom. It brings a soothing effect and a sense of luxury. Greige is a warm form of gray which can improve your bathroom experience. It is also easy to match. You can match the color with brushed silver fixtures and wood vanity in the space.

Alternatively, you can create a spar theme for your bathroom. Monochromatic colors such as aquatic paint color or pretty blue bring a feel of spa luxury to a bathroom. If you are going for this color, consider using varying shades.

Create Pop of Color with Lighting

Lighting a bathroom can be challenging if you have limited space as it can cause reflection effects from angled mirrors. To counter this problem, you can use a diffuse ceiling light and position the downlights carefully to avoid shadows. For makeup application, use vertical lights flanking the mirror for maximum lighting. If you are looking for DIY home improvement, you can use excellent cove lighting for a modernized bathroom and add mini recessed light to your cove lighting to expound on the touch of a spa in your bathroom. The mini recessed lights are pretty relaxing with a theatre touch. Cove lighting also creates an excellent bathroom experience taking you to the future.

Add Pop of Color with Space

You can add a pop of color to your bathroom by creating more space. Space is very critical in the design and more so in the bathroom. Most bathrooms have limited space, and if your bathroom is small and you want to make it appear more extensive, you can use mirrors to your advantage. Apart from making areas appear bigger by reflecting light, mirrors also enhance colors. If you don’t have much space, you can consider installing vessel sinks which take up less space and creates a sense of style and creativity.

Achieve a Pop of Color with a Backsplash

The backsplash is critical for a bathroom as it prevents the walls from mold formation and rot and if you work it up, it could add a pop of color to your bathroom. You can add a backsplash as a DIY home improvement or hire a professional. The choice of backsplash should complement your designs in terms of color, shape, and texture. Space is also a big factor to consider, and glass tiles will reflect light and make your bathroom space appear bigger.

A bathroom design is personal, and you can combine different features to create a pop of color for your bathroom. If you have these ideas, you can consult an interior designer to help you figure out what works best for your DIY home improvement project.

In a recent LA Business Journal article, LABJ spoke with experts on how lockdown led to a greater want of exclusivity. Graham Culp, a partner at Meriwether believes it comes down to pent-up demand, stating demand was “off historic levels, but we didn’t see a lot of attrition.”. It was not until the last few months, as Culp continued on, that they saw a vastly growing demand for membership applications. With new social clubs arising, for what seems like every other day, Angeleno’s are left with a vast array of options. With the recent opening of Britely, the club joins San Vicenta Bungalows, Soho House, and many more.
