Neuralink Hopes to Begin Human Trails in the Next Six Months

The brain chip, which would link our brains to computers, showed progress in two major medical areas this past Wednesday. Which areas exactly? Helping blind people to see and helping people with spinal cord injuries to walk. While the technology is still far from the initial medical uses, the company is making significant progress. In a recent report by Ericsson, it is expected that by year’s end, 1 billion people will be connected to 5G. During the time of July and September of this year, 5G added 110 million subscribers around the world, upping the total count to 870 million. The number of users has almost doubled from the number of subscribers at the end of 2021. According to Ericsson, if 5G users hit 1 billion this year, it would mean fifth-generation networks reached the nine-figure subscriber two years after their predecessor. It’s anticipated they will peak at 5.2 billion by the end of the year, and mobile subscriptions overall are forecast to exceed 8.4 billion.

Hive Social Emerges as the Latest Twitter Competitor Gaining Traction

As Twitter continues to go through its own internal shifts in the musk-era, a number of competitors are gaining traction. The latest, Hive Social, has seen increased user engagement in recent weeks. A mobile-only social media app, the look and feel of Hive Social are similar to Twitter in terms of style. The app allows users to follow and follow back, “like” and “heart” posts, as well as repost. The difference? Unlike Twitter, the timeline on Hive Social follows a chronological order. Additionally, users cannot boost their posts, and there is no desktop option. It, of course, has yet to be seen what, if any, of these emerging platforms will overtake Twitter in popularity.

Amazon’s Latest Robot Provides Helping Hand in Everything Store

The latest robotic technology from Amazon is proving to provide a helping hand in the company’s warehouse locations. The new robot, called Sparrow, would work to shift the balance at Amazon between people and machines. The robot uses machine learning and cameras to identify objects. Amazon demonstrated Sparrow for the first time today at the company’s robotics manufacturing facility in Massachusetts. The device is currently being tested at a facility in Texas. The company says Sparrow can handle 65 percent of the more than 100 million items in its inventory. Tye Brady, the chief technologist at Amazon Robotics, says that range is the most impressive thing about the robot. “No one has the inventory that Amazon has,” he says.

Home Organization Trends to Try | Home Tips

Keep your abode in order with the latest home organization trends. From Kardashian-level designer perfection to minimal and sleek, there are a number of ways to organize your home. Read on below for how to press reset on your organization routine with the top trends of the year.

Designer Perfection

Most may consider the kitchen to be the heart of the home, but a new trend has emerged to take the crown. The pantry has become a key focal point of home organization trends. Many celebrities, from the Kardashians to Courtney Cox, are showing off their designer pantries with next-level organization. From assisting with meal prep to housing weekend snacks or baking supplies, pantries are kitchen essentials. Having an intentional pantry system in place ensures food products are easy to locate and keep track of what is or is not expired. Things like stackable and space-saving containers, as well as chic labels, can make a world of difference.

Sustainably Set Home Organization

You can be organized and eco-friendly when it comes to your home organization. Storage products made from recycled or sustainable materials are on the rise as of this year, with no show of a slowdown. Instead of buying plastic that contributes to landfills, look for alternative containers. Consider options made out of materials such as hyacinth, rattan, and jute to organize items. You can keep things organized in your home while also doing your part to protect the environment!

Minimal and Marvelous Home Organization

Opting for minimal living is more than just a trend; it’s a lifestyle. By choosing a “less is more” approach, you are able to remove clutter in your home and free up space. Consider this minimized approach to home organization when it comes to your kitchen or even office space. Streamlining everything from your cups and dishes to silverware. The benefit of having a less cluttered shelf or countertop is the contemporary answer to the china collections of yesteryear.

Customized to You

Home organization doesn’t need to be a carbon copy of everyone else’s design options. As of late, many homeowners are opting for home organization that is customized to their individual style. Using things like a track system for your closet can be a great option instead of expensive cabinetry. In addition, it allows further customization to add shelves or drawers as you go. Think of function along with aesthetics. At the end of the day, the goal is for your home organization to be practical while also being custom-tailored to your preferences.

Economic update for the week ending November 26, 2022

Stock markets finished the week higher again this week – Stock markets had another positive week as data continues to point to the inflation rate moderating. Minutes from the Fed that were released on Wednesday. The minutes signaled that the Fed would be slowing the pace of interest rate hikes. Long term treasury bond rates and mortgage rates have also dropped since the October CPI was released. It showed that year-over-year inflation rose at the slowest pace since January. Next Friday, the November job’s report will be released. It is widely thought that the brisk rate of job growth that we have seen this year will have tamed in November. The strong jobs market, rising wages due to the amount of job openings outpacing the number of workers seeking jobs, and the low unemployment rate, have been fueling consumer spending. The Fed is hoping that their dramatic rate of interest rate hikes will have increased borrowing costs to an extent that companies will have to cut the number of employees. This would lead to a higher unemployment rate, less competition for workers, a lower rate of wage growth, and workers tightening their spending. Less consumer spending would curb inflation as consumer spending accounts for about 70% of the U.S. economy. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed the week at 34,347.03, up 1.8% from 33,745.69 last week. It is down 5.5% year-to-date. The S&P 500 closed the week at 4,026.12, up 1.3% from 3,975.34 last week. The S&P is down 15.5% year-to-date. The NASDAQ closed the week at 11,225.36, up 0.7% from 11,146.06 last week. It is down 28.2% year-to-date.

U.S. Treasury bond yields continue to drop – The 10-year treasury bond closed the week yielding 3.68%, down from 3.87% last week. The 30-year treasury bond yield ended the week at 3.74%, down from 3.92% last week. We watch bond yields because mortgage rates often follow treasury bond yields.

Mortgage rates lower for the second consecutive week – The Freddie Mac Primary Mortgage Survey reported that mortgage rates for the most popular loan products as of November 24, 2022, were as follows: The 30-year fixed mortgage rate was 6.58%, down from 6.61% last week. The 30-year rate was over 7% just three weeks ago. The 15-year fixed was 5.90% down from 5.98% last week.

Have a great Weekend!

Bob Iger Returns as CEO of Disney as Bob Chapek Steps Down

It’s the return of…Bob Iger. The former Disney CEO will once again take on the helm of leading the media and consumer entertainment giant Disney. Bob Iger will serve a two-year term as CEO, during which he will pick and groom a long-term successor. Disney’s board chair Susan Arnold said in a statement, “We thank Bob Chapek for his service to Disney over his long career, including navigating the company through the unprecedented challenges of the pandemic. The Board has concluded that as Disney embarks on an increasingly complex period of industry transformation, Bob Iger is uniquely situated to lead the Company through this pivotal period.” Bob Chapek was not quoted in the press release.

Elon Musk to Make Twitter DMs Encrypted and Add Video and Voice Calling

In a recent presentation, new Twitter owner Elon Musk revealed to employees that the company would encrypt DMs. In addition, the company will also begin working to add encrypted video and voice calling between accounts. “We want to enable users to be able to communicate without being concerned about their privacy, [or] without being concerned about a data breach at Twitter causing all of their DMs to hit the web, or think that maybe someone at Twitter could be spying on their DMs,” Musk said. “That’s obviously not going to be cool, and it has happened a few times before.” Musk also stated that the company is in talks to work with Signal, the encrypted chat app, on achieving this latest venture for the app.

Domino’s to Build Electric Pizza delivery fleet with Chevy Bolts

Delivery that’s fast and eco-friendly? That’s what Domino’s is looking to achieve with its new EV vehicle initiative. The company is gearing up to put more than 800 all-electric pizza delivery vehicles into service in the coming months. Likewise, it will be starting out with a lower number of 100 vehicles, rolling out in November. The company went with the compact Chevy Bolt EV and is wrapping the vehicles with custom branding. For the new Bolts, drivers will not be equipped with the built-in pizza warming oven that the DOmino’s XP came with in 2015. Domino’s Bolts will be delivering from select franchise and corporate stores throughout the US. “Electric delivery cars make sense as vehicle technology continues to evolve,” reads a statement from Domino’s CEO Russell Weiner.

Facebook to Make Teen Accounts More Private by Default

New privacy settings are underway for Facebook users under the age of 16. The company has stated it will enable more private settings by default in announcements made in the past week. The default settings will go into effect for new accounts with a display prompt, encouraging activation of the privacy setting for accounts that are already active. The settings restrict details on an account so that only a teen’s friends can view the posts they’re tagged in, their friend list, and the pages, people, and lists they follow. They also require users to review the posts they’re tagged in and allow only friends to comment on their public posts. Instagram already rolled out similar overarching privacy features for teens in August. The changes come as the company works to make its platforms a safer space for all users.
